DESCRIPTION You’ve found the Mission Beach Solstice, a remarkable detached home, located in the middle of the most desirable part of Mission Beach. Situated on the strand right between the beach and bay.
This is not your typical beach house. From top to bottom and inside and out, the home was custom-built using the finest in natural materials to create a contemporary masterpiece.
The homeowner-builder traveled extensively in the US, Europe, and Asia, which provided the inspiration. By combining diverse styles of Scandinavian architecture with the warm natural materials of Southeast Asian temples, the result is a peaceful and welcoming space, where you can’t help but relax the moment you walk in the door.
The extensive use of stone, concrete, metal, and glass adds weight, and then those materials are fused with a copious amount of custom woodwork throughout to lend warmth and life to the space. The diverse wood species used include oil-rubbed oak floors, expansive Douglas fir window casings, rich mahogany doors and handrails, and solid hardwood cabinetry. Seafoam green travertine tile with embedded marine fossils, quartzite tile with marble details, tumbled glass inlays and colorful sandstone is ever-changing when interacting with sunlight and shadows.
Guests will appreciate the Green building practices that were used, including the photovoltaic panels on the roof, energy-efficient heat pump, and tankless water heater. The climate-appropriate and drought-tolerant garden uses agaves native to Mexico, aloes from southern Africa and California-native echeveria succulents.
Attention to detail is everywhere. One-of-a-kind delights to discover include a surfboard over the staircase, made from a redwood spar reclaimed from a northern California water tower; a Douglas fir orca totem made by a Native American chainsaw artist working alongside a Washington highway; and a large kitchen island/table handcrafted from sustainable and locally harvested eucalyptus. The kitchen table is a natural gathering place and it was deliberately placed at the center of the structure. It’s the heart of the home and the lines of the dwelling radiate from there.
The open-concept living floor on the main (2nd) level features a gourmet kitchen where the conversation around the table flows easily and whipping up your favorite dishes is a breeze. Chefs will appreciate the induction cooktop with specialized cookware, convection oven and built-in gas BBQ with a pass-through window. The kitchen’s custom-styled cabinetry is offset against a wall of back-painted glass accented with open shelving made of honed marble. The living area is just off the kitchen and features stylish designer furnishings, including a queen sofa sleeper and a large top-of-the-line flat-screen TV and sound system.
Additional amenities include TVs in all rooms, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, ready-made beds, one towel set and beach towel per guest, a starter kit of soaps and paper goods, and an in-home washer and dryer.

House is nice. Location is great. It’s an open concept so be prepared for noise carrying throughout the house. Very modern with high end appliances and amenities.
Great stay. Great service from Bluewater. Clean, modern, superb location.
Electronics (TV and stove) a little complicated for over 70 year old crowd.
We had a wonderful time!
Had a great stay. Poor to no communication leading up to the trip when I reached out on three separate occasions concerning the recent flooding and the condition on the property, but all was good and the property was in great condition when we got there. Home was beautiful and modern. Would recommend.
The property is in a great central spot in Mission Beach, several restaurants and shops practically across the street or next door. It was clean and comfortable, I would book this property again!
House was beautiful and in a great location. Close to beach. Lots of stairs which is something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with little kids. Attached garage was also great
Fabulous stay at this very nice, newly updated home and very close to both the beach and the bay. The property managers were fantastic as well, checking in, coffee and munchies greeted us…nice touch! Thank you for an awesome stay, we will be back!
Property was fantastic, everything you needed to enjoy you stay, we used the kitchen several nights and found everything required to prepare a meal.
Neighborhood was quiet at night and beds were very comfortable.
My only suggestion is better details on how to locate the property and that you need two access codes to enter.
Would definitely stay here again.
This house was in a great location just a block away from the ocean or bay with plenty of restaurants and entertainment options. It was an easy drive to everywhere we planned to visit as well. The house was a perfect size for our group and we enjoyed all that it had to offer. Stephanie was extremely helpful and very responsive to any requests or help we needed.
I would definitely stay here again.
House is great with a beautiful open common area and 2 bedrooms. Note: Upstairs bedroom is an open loft, still secluded, but no sound privacy if that's something you want. Downstairs bedroom is more private. Overall incredible house, highly recommend. Management company also left us some Thanksgiving welcome tools for cooking!
Great location, close to restaurants and shops, but not in the heart of the bars so it was mostly quiet. House has great updated features. Exactly what the listing shows. Could have used some more cookware and towels, but overall a great stay! Very quick to react to an issue we had with the lock- even in the middle of the night. Thanks for the great stay!
The location of this house is perfect. Easy walking distance to the ocean. Neighborhood was quiet. House was incredibly clean and well appointed with lots of extras to make our stay comfortable. The management company was very responsive and the communication was stellar. Lots of stairs to get around the house which wasn’t an issue for our group but might be hard to navigate for some. Hope to stay again sometime!
We very much enjoyed our stay. Great location to both the bay and the beach. Listing was accurate. The only way to get into the house was through the garage as guests are not given codes for the main doors, which was slightly inconvenient, but manageable. Would recommend, although the property is currently under contract and I’m not sure if it will be available in the future.

Very Nice
This is a very nice home located between the bay and the ocean. Great walking or running places, only 1 block from either. If you can't handle stairs this is not for you. as there are many stairs between the three levels. Very nicely decorated and has a garage for parking as here is limited parking in the area. We enjoyed our stay and liked the location and would certainly book it again if we go back to San Diego.
We came from WI for our sons HS grad trip and we were not disappointed. Bluewater vacation homes staff was great in making sure our stay was stress free. The instructions for entering, enjoying, and exiting the property were clear and simple. The property was EXACTLY as advertised! It was clean, well stocked with home essentials, and a “stones throw “ from both the ocean and bay. The only negative was the upstairs bath room sliding door would stick.....but this negative was hardly worth mentioning as everything else on this property was spot on. Yes! I would book this property and patronize Bluewater Vacation Homes in the future.
We had a very nice week at this beautiful new house in Mission Beach. It had a few problems that needed taking care of, but the management company was quick to respond. The house appears to be very new, and they are still working the kinks out of some of the appliances, etc. The main floor common room is light and airy, although we missed having a standard dining table (counter only). Good TV with streaming services, including YouTube TV. High level of cleanliness. Some quirks, such as that guests cannot enter through the front door and can only enter through the garage. Also note that the house is immediately adjacent to a Mexican restaurant and a laundromat so that some interesting odors will waft in when the windows are open.
All and this place is very nice...with a couple issues.
I had 2 problems that kept me from giving 5 out of 5 stars.
1) Not being able to check-in till 4 and having to check out by 10am sucks. Really hope this can stop now that the pandemic is over.
2) The house's cooling system doesn't keep the upper floor cool. If you stay here in the Summer or Fall be prepared for the upper floor master suite to be VERY warm and humid. It was so bad we actually couldn't sleep upstairs some nights. Fortunately SD is cool and dry most of the year.
Semiannually we take our family vacation to Mission Beach. This by far is the nicest place we’ve stayed at. The quality of materials used to build this house is amazing (natural stone, solid wood cabinets, real wood flooring, high end appliances, fixtures etc…). This is not your typical builder grade quality rental. The roof top deck has a view of the bay and people watching on the boulevard. Having the double car garage made it easy and less stressful trying to find parking. We had two vehicles (Jeep Gladiator and Mazda CX-3) and they fit nicely. The neighborhood surrounding it was quiet and made it easy to relax and sleep…..which can be hard to find down here during the summer. The Bluewater Vacation Rentals management team was great. They had everything labeled and a guide book for us to navigate our way through the property. They also checked in on us, via text messaging, about every other day. This was nice knowing that someone could be reached if we had an issue. Thanks you for an awesome vacation.
Wonderful Modern very clean property we were a family of four and it was the perfect size. I would keep in mind that there’s one bedroom on the first floor and the second bedroom is up two flights of stairs. So if you have mobility issues this would not be the place. Property management was available and very communicative. The only improvement I would recommend is clarification of where you enter the property when you first arrive. You enter from an alley that is very small and the address is not well lit at night. It took us a few loops around the block to figure out which house we were supposed to arrive to.
From the pictures it looks like the house is front in the normal side street. However the streets are very very small which is typical for a beach community but unless you know you would be surprised. I would recommend a well lit address sign on the garage side that you enter from. Other than that everything was perfect. Thank you for letting us stay.
Not our first time in San Diego, but our first time at Mission Beach. The location was great and the property as good as advertised; well designed, clean and comfortable. Service from the managers was excellent.
Overall, great experience to be repeated.
