Could be solid but a lot of the staff seemed upset and disinterested. 1 would not fill up water bottle as too far in kitchen. Another played music while cleaning up despite beautiful quiet morning with birds. Another swore when seeing mess left by an animal. Front desk was super awesome however. For the momey cluld of been great

Had booked for 2 nights but left after 1 night! Terrible experience! Mindful this is a 2 star resort but the place was dilapidated, unkempt & stinking. Resort is in lush tropical setting but the whole place is neglected. Very tacky decor with concrete or plastic painted to look like wood/rustic. The place was a mess - boxes, rubble, general stuff lying everywhere. Staff are uninterested & generally loiter around. The pool was vile! A layer of scum & dirty around the tiles and the water was cloudy with lots of debris - we even found a bandaid floating. The wooden lounge beds were rotten wood and so uncomfortable. There was a pungent smell of dirty water throughout. Room was primitive with a flimsy door - didn’t feel safe at all. Given a bath towel but no hand towel - bath towel was frayed & very grubby. The bed & pillow were hard as hell and lumpy!! Woke up with a sore back Breakfast was rotten. We left the next day - staff didn’t even acknowledge or ask how was our stay! The only positive is it’s close to the sunbears & orangutan sanctuaries. Sepilok is a lovely area but consider paying a bit more for somewhere better (the Nature Resort across the road was great).

Very nice location, beautiful garden and bridges, close to the Orangutan and Sun Bear Sanctuarys. We were very lucky one morning and saw 2 Orangutans close to the restaurant. We saw Macaque Monkeys all over the property, as well as a lot of birds like herons and Kingfisher. We had delux room with balcony overlooking the garden and was very close to the pool. The room furniture and hotel furniture were outdated. They cleaned the room every day and changed the towels, but the bathroom had very strong smell after first use after each cleaning. Staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast that was included was with very limited choice. Restaurant however had lot's of options of tasty meals.

Perfectly located for the Sepilok orang utan and Borneo bear sanctuaries! Also the RDC! The hotel is set in a beautiful location and is full of stunning views! The owners were very welcoming and willing to share their passionate stories about the hotel! Breakfast was good - different on both mornings. Tasty and light food to set you up for the days! Dinner was also good - nice menu catering for everyone. The rooms are clean and simple - just how they should be in a rain forest!

We stayed for 2 nights, it was good value for money. This resort is located in the jungle so you can enjoy peaceful environment. Very close to orangutan and sunbear sanctuary. Breakfast options are very limited. Some things could be improved for example notice about renovation taking place in the resort, we touched few times freshly painted barrier and had problem to remove it from the body, there was no sign about that which was a bit annoying. Rooms also need some touch. Pool was nice, but opening hours are quite short (9am-5:30pm). Overall experience was good.

We did not manage to stay at this hotel for the whole of our booking, the room was dirty with ants all over the floor and suspicious stains all over the yellowed bedding. The shower didn't reach the holder and ran cold water only. Staff at the restaurant audibly laughed when we spoke to them and the food was limited and poor. As a 2 star establishment I was not expecting much but I do expect a clean room.

Unsafe old room

Very dated basic room with hard mattress resulting in difficult night sleep. Bathroom needs a renovation as just functional. Only good thing was that we got a room with air-conditioning. The facility is 30years old and desperately needs the rooms to be renovated, 3 booked 3 night and left after 2 nights as we were feeling unwell with respiratory issues for what i believe was spending time in our room.

Very basic service from hotel staff - ie they give you the room key and that’s it. The room is also basic. While it had clealry been cleaned there were still ants all over the bed. And very noisy - you can hear your neighbours and all movement. Overall ok for a 24 hour stopover to see the few local sights - which are all easy walking distance.

One night stay before heading to the Kinabatangan River. Easy walk to the Orangutan + Sunbear rehab centres (both amazing). Was a long walk to my room with many uneven steps along the boardwalk without any offer of help with my bags. I felt reception was quite poor - check in at 3pm and i arrived around 10.40 - was told I could put my bags down the end until check in but no further advice, but if I had rushed could have made the morning session with orangutans (I arrived just after 11 and was too late for the office). There was a night walk on offer but was not told anything about it. At dinner I was told to move from the table I'd chosen overlooking the lake, to any others all looking over the carpark, with no further explanation (apparently for a tour group). Room was quite good - good size, small balcony. Pool ok. Gym equipment was very old / looked unsafe.

The place is run down. Other visitors have been generous with their descriptions. Rooms need to be refurbished. Water pressure needs to be improved. The electric shower was a trickle and the temperature control was ineffective. Bedding was threadbare. Pillows were rock hard. Curtains were stained. Electric sockets and light switches were ingrained with dirt. Buffet breakfast was poor. Noodles, eggs, beans, potatoes, toast and fruit. Sounds ok but really not. Restaurant food selection was large but nothing healthy. Restaurant staff were mainly glum and certainly not welcoming. Reception staff were better. Wild dogs were roaming everywhere. Yes it is the jungle but it seems like no money is being spent here on improvements or maintenance. Stay at the Sepilok Nature Resort instead. It is still just a 5 minute walk to the orang utan and bear centres. It might cost a bit more it will be worth it. We had a meal there and it was vastly superior to the Jungle Retreat. Hope this helps some people avoid the terrible experience that we had.
