what a gem - not for everyone as it is not fancy, but absolutely welcoming and a perfect spot to stay in yorkshire - found the locals friendly and lively and stayed in the pub on the grounds long past midnight swapping stories dinner was excellent and breakfast was included would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone looking for a quiet country inn stay

A lovely pub, room were nice and clean and had everything we needed. Fantastic dinner and breakfast and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We stayed as we were going to the open air theatre We will definitely be back when we go there again!

Just gorgeous

The hotel is absolutely wonderful, we had a lovely welcome, the room is so beautiful, spotless and clean. We loved the four poster bed and the spaciousness of the rooms. We would definitely recommend it.

A stay not to be missed.

The room was a good size and it was fantastic; comfy bed, good furniture, very clean well maintained carpet. Breakfast was very good; locally sourced items which was evident from taste and quality of the produce. All the staff were friendly, helpful about the stay and local info.

Well worth a visit

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room was clean, spacious and comfy. On our arrival we were given a brief history of the building and its Royal connection, this was very entertaining and informative. We only ate 1 evening meal here which with hindsight was a mistake, should have eaten here both nights. Food was amazing as well as being reasonably priced, with plenty of choice. Breakfast was yummy too. A lovely place to stay.

Jacob who checked us into our room was fantastic,he made sure we had a table for the delicious dinner and also asked if our room was ok, he was very informative, lovely place food outstanding room super clean and bed was so comfy, would definetly go back, lovely setting and also not to far if you want to visit the beach. 3 night stay

We stayed for 3 nights in room 9 which is a ground floor room at the rear of the property, next to the car park. The room consisted of a lobby area with a bathroom and bedroom off the lobby. The room was very comfortable, clean and tidy and met our needs as my husband has mobility problems and cannot manage stairs. We booked bed and breakfast but also dined in every evening. The food was outstanding and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The inside of the inn is very characteristic and well presented. There are bus stops close by with a service to both Whitby and Scarborough every 30 minutes which meant we didn’t have to use the car. Found this by chance but would definitely stay again.

Room was cold, wardrobe door didn’t close, one waitress was unco-operative when I requested cheese and biscuits instead of dessert then later served them to the next table. When my husband quietly questioned her about this in the bar when paying the bill, she denied knowing anything about it. We stayed there before COVID for several days and enjoyed our visit but now would neither return nor recommend it to others The food was good and breakfast staff excellent. Pity about the evening!

What a gem of a find and without hesitation would return. The bus stop is literally just outside around the corner where we got the bus to Scarborough for £2 esch way. We did the pub quiz on the Wednesday night for a good cause at only £1 each to enter with a free bowl of chips and a plate of sandwiches. The pub has a great atmosphere and we eat in the pub on the evening. I had home made steak pie with yorkshire puddings to start. The bedrooms are modern and very clean with tea msking facilities in the bedroom. Good selection of beers in the pub. This pub has so much history and even the queen has bern for lunch. The breakfast was excellent, staff are so lovely, polite. We are already looking to go vack. Cloughton is quiet place and just down the road at Seamer is a local chippy. We really enjoyed our stay, nice and quiet for us, great bus links, great food, great staff. What more can i say. A pub steeped in history. Thank you.

Extremely welcoming and friendly owners and staff. Great parking. Lovely rooms, clean, very comfy bed with good bedding and pillows. Great breakfast and food in the evening was excellent. Good choice of beers and wine. Not often I say this, but we couldn't fault anything!
