The location was quiet and sat in the middle of a large semi rural area and looked out over a forest of conifer trees. Despite the peace and quiet you were still only a few minutes drive from the town centre. Great massages!
I would like to say, unfortunately our stay was somewhat underwhelming.
I get that it was Christmas Eve, and an unmanned reception maybe unavoidable.
The room was reasonably comfortable ,simple but basic. Although the broken toilet seat was a bit of a pain in the butt.
I was a little unnerved but the rotten door step that felt as if it was going to give way underfoot along with the deck in that area.
However, the view and the sounds of birds from the deck was pretty nice and relaxing.
Almost as nice as the complimentary cooked breakfast we paid for.....oh sorry we did not get that. Mainly because there was no one Manning reception.
Anyhow, would I recommend a stay. Hmm maybe, maybe not.
The host is lovely and welcoming. Unfortunately our room had ants when we arrived, we were simply directed to use bug spray which was in the room, which was a less than ideal response. Bathroom was a little dirty.
The balcony backing onto the bush land was lovely and hearing the nature was calming.
Overall, did the job for a one night last minute stay, but I wouldn’t say it’s 4 star or worth what we paid.

Basic older property
The property is older and has more wear and tear than presented. Also the rooms are small, and there was significant noise from other rooms. Fine if you need to be near Byron Bay but more of a basic place to stay.
My boyfriend and I went here as a birthday present for myself. To sum it up, our time spent at Azabu was fantastic! TP took excellent care of us throughout the whole stay. I had a lovely, deep massage and felt so relaxed afterwards. The venue was serene and immersed within the forest as our balcony looked onto the trees. My favourite part of the stay was the wonderful breakfast brought to our rooms. We loved our time spent there!
We had a great week at Azabu. It is a unique boutique experience, small scale (only 5 villas) but great communal facilities (pool, sauna, spa) and it made for very personalised service. With a rainforest outlook from the room, it was very relaxing. Thanks to TP and the team for a good holiday. Recommend for couples looking for a relaxing long weekend.
The hotel is in a nice location and is generally really nice, the walls are a little thin and you can hear what is happening in the rooms along side you as well as outside but generally it’s nice
However the attitude and customer service skills of the staff needs a massive overhaul, for this reason I would probably re consider if I would stay there again
We enjoyed our 1 night stay at the Azabu. The man at check in was very nice and welcoming and the room itself was good although could do with a little updating. The garden was a nice touch although there was a bamboo area that could be utilised much better as it looked unkept and uninviting. It’s nice to be secluded but also conveniently close to the centre of Byron Bay.
Can I just start by saying the service was exceptional. Cooked breakfasts were amazing which really made the whole stay very relaxing. No hustle or bustle here. Tranquil location minutes from Byron Bay catch an Uber very quick and cheap BTW. My wife and I couldn't believe how nice we were treated it was like the staff were family. We felt instantly at home at Azabu and would definitely recommend to our friends and family to stay here and take up the breakfast offer as well. Parking is a breeze and the local peacocks and kookaburras made the location feel so peaceful. Thank you again for the lovely service and hospitality. Mark and Riki
We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Azabu. We felt so welcomed the moment we entered the reception area. Tamara was so lovely, displaying her knowledge of the retreat along with things to do and places to see in Byron Bay.
Our room (King) was gorgeously laid out with fine linen, robes to wear, a private deck area looking out onto the private gardens which formed a forest of great historic trees.
Each moment of the day from morning to night we were presented with bird song, the resident peacock and her peachicks.
Breakfast was served each morning with local, organic produce and laid out with reverence.
We had wonderful conversations with TP, a gracious man and listened with excitement of some of the changes he will be making at Azabu.
There is a pool, spa, sauna, a path to walk and do some tree bathing and areas to sit quietly, reflect and to just be.
A truly divine hideaway nook that I’d highly recommend.
We will definitely return another day.
Outstanding host TP (and also Tamara in his absence). We had a wonderful relaxing time. Would definitely recommend Azabu and hope to return st some point.
Beautiful place to stay. Angela was very accomodating even though our stay was only a couple of nights.
Breakfast was yummy, the room was amazing and so was the surroundings.
Looking forward to staying again, hopefully a little longer next time.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Needs renovation, very dated throughout.
The location is perfect set amongst the sub tropical rainforest, however everything needs to be bought up to a 5 star level as stated. The room is very old and because of that seems dirty. Needs renovations, fresh coat of paint, new shower, desperately needs new bed sheets and robes badly, in saying that the bed was comfortable but the sheets felt old, needs all new light fittings, etc. Where the mini bar fridge is they should utilize the space more and have a small bench top to put drinks and nibbles and on the balcony.
We booked purely based on one factor that the retreat had a sauna and hot tub, yet after paying in full and checking in we found the sauna and it wasn’t a sauna it was a shoe box with heaters extremely uncomfortable and didn’t heat to standard and it was shoved down below the pool area very weird choice. Would have preferred there to be one at all...Some Japanese slippers to go with the robes would have been nice. There was a little garden path you could walk down to chill out or read a book when we decided to take advantage of the space when we got to it, it was stacked with timber and not complete as if someone started and never intended to finish. Also back in the room there was a tacky tv and DVD player mounted to the wall looking ugly and distasteful. We booked for Japanese ZEN not to watch TV I suggest they take them all out of rooms as people would book this location to disconnect and relax.
Needs some love ASAP or will soon be out of business.
We stumbled on to this accommodation after having a B+B that we had booked nearby cancelled. It is a few kilometres out of town on a badly maintained road but well worth the drive. Beautiful set up in a beautiful setting. We arrived too late to get our breakfast menu in (has to be in by 4pm) so they gave us a $50 voucher for a lovely cafe on the beach.
A great place to unwind in the midst of a forest and yet being close to Byron Bay. We had a great experience here. Nothing that would disturb the tranquillity of your stay here.
