"Awesome location and view of the Indian Ocean. From our balcony we had direct view of the beach and the ocean. The room was spacious, with nice and comfortable furniture, and bedding. Very nicely decorated. Very clean and one of the best stays that we had. Staff were super nice and accommodating. We loved having drinks and appetizers outside on the deck. Live music added to the very pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely stay here again. "

"I really enjoyed my stay here at The Emerson Spice Hotel. The rooms are clean and decorated nicely keeping the old feel of this historic building. I liked the old fashioned door style of the Camile Room. Which doesn’t use keycards like most hotels. You use a huge big padlock 🔐 to secure the door. All the staff were very nice and friendly. The only thing you need to be aware of is there is no elevator. All stairs only, so be prepared to get some stair exercises during your stay. LOL! 😃 "

"We stayed here for one night in the annexe section of the hotel, which is seperate from the main hotel (short 1 min walk). Our standard room was clean and basic for a nights stay, nothing fancy. Location is great for food and drink options. No lifts, so bad to carry bags up stairs, so something to consider if you need a lift."

"Staff very friendly and accommodating. Great location in the city of stone town very walkable. Breakfast daily. This review is based on staying in two different rooms. The Shaba was large spacious. The rosemond was small and adequate but the water pressure in the shower was very low and no privacy curtain in the window. The amount of light in the rooms are low when applying makeup or using the mirror. "

"Nice place. Looked just like the pictures. Good size rooms. Breakfast and breakfast area was also very good. Hotel is just by the old quarters of Stone town. Almost all staff was very friendly (just one younger lady in reception that for some reason was not so nice to our daughter). Good price."

"if you’re in Stone Town, this is definitely a great place to stay. Beach is nearby. Manager is amazing, he provided someone with an umbrella, let me borrow a charger adapter, gave me a map of the town, helped me get to the beach, offered complimentary drink & I was able to check in early. I loved it here so much. The rooftop was amazing, the food was excellent & the staff was friends. I felt safe here & very welcomed. Thank you for hosting me!"

"Stayed there in 1994, so almost exactly 30 years ago. Same charm, but a little more run down. Our sense was that it showed the consequence of not having a strong manager on site. Little things were a bit amiss and staff could probably use some training in customer relations appropriate to a place with Emerson's storied history and its cost"
