  • The Rio Grande River winds 12 miles down Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. When the water is high you can come down the 1,500 foot walled canyon. With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Enjoyed our stay..

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Ten Bits Ranch. It was comfortable home base while we explored Big Bend. Highly recommend!

Super cool place

Ten Bits was a really neat place. Felt like walking into an old western movie but having all the modern amenities. Comfortable room with unbelievable views from the back porch. Sis was very responsive. Loved having access to a nice kitchen and dining area, although need an update on some pans. 10 minutes from Terlingua and about a 45-60 minute drive to the main part of Beg Bend park but easy, beautiful drive. Great place for group vacations. Don’t go during the summer.

Big Bend experience

We loved the quiet location with a great view! The fire pit, sunsets, and star gazing were great. We were not able to get the gas logs inside to start. Our neighbors had similar issues and once started did not stay lit for very long. This was our only issue and was minor in the overall syay.

Cute place but so dirty we couldn’t enjoy.

We stayed two nights at the property. Overall i would not recommend staying here unless something with their process changes. The rooms are so cute and I was so excited when we got there, but we unfortunately the room was so gross and dirty. Dead bugs were everywhere, someone else’s hair on the pillows, sheets smelled dirty., the windows don’t look like they have ever seen windex . The place was so grimy that my partner who is allergic to dust mites was in hives most of the time we were in the room. We did reach out to “Sis” she offered us a new room- unfortunately the same issues were in the new room except we found dead bugs in the bed…. We ended up going to the local general store and spent $30 on cleaning supplies. We got it as clean as we could so we could just sleep there as there weren’t very many good options for places to stay. If this place was cleaned properly I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it. Like I said such a cute idea.

The gate code for our room (barbershop) didn’t work and we had to climb thru window. Also gas fireplace pilot wouldn’t light. Everything else was great.

Highlight of Our Stay in Texas!

Absolutely beautiful location! The location views and landscape are incredible!! This is not a resort but Sis has done great work to add comfort to this rugged terrain. The cottage (we stayed in the Barber Shop) is spacious, comfortable and attractively designed. We will definitely keep this property as a favorite and try to visit with our sons and grandchildren. Sis is a great host and responsive via text, phone calls and through the website. Thank you for your hospitality!
