"It's an odd or special, staff-free hotel in Pittsburgh. I was lucky enough to bump into one on the day of check in because the main door is locked with a code. Other than that, I only bumped into the cleaning crew in the morning here and there. The building is old and has character. It's quite attractive. The restaurant at the lobby is bloody expensive. I've never tried. The amenities: it's basically single use pour over coffee (regular and decaf). This is actually very damn good! There's also...

"Room was clean. Staff were very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was basic. Parking was in the city garage with first 3 hours free but overnight $16. Overall good place with some shopping and restaurants, and ice cream places nearby."

"We booked this hotel sight-unseen on Expedia, knowing nothing about the property. This was one of the most delightful surprises we've ever encountered while traveling. The decor was stunning, our room was huge, the restaurant was amazing- just everything about it was top notch. From the outside, it's a very unassuming building on a fairly nondescript street, but once you step inside, you're in a time machine that evokes the Gilded Age, in a really good way. "This is the second time I have stayed at the Oaklander. The first time there were stains all over my sheets. They were changed. This time the pillows were wrinkled and did not smell fresh. I had to request new pillow cases. It’s a beautiful hotel but when they tell you they are inspecting your room before you go in beware, you better inspect it yourself. Housekeeping was very courteous when they changed the pillow cases. One bright point. Very disappointing for such a beautiful hotel."
