We recently stayed at the Le Germain Hotel in Toronto and have very mixed feelings about the experience. On one hand, the hotel itself is exceptional. The location is unbeatable for exploring the city, the rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable, and the breakfast was truly high-quality and delicious.
However, our stay was significantly marred by a major safety and service issue on Saturday night. A fire alarm went off, forcing us to evacuate into the cold night in our pajamas. While alarms happen, the complete lack of communication from the staff was incredibly frustrating. We were left standing outside with no updates, no information on what was happening, and—most importantly—no one ever officially told us it was safe to return to our rooms.
Because of the stress and the cold, we lost a significant amount of sleep. We ended up sleeping in the next morning to recover, which caused us to miss our scheduled morning excursion.
It is a shame that such a beautiful property is let down by poor guest relations during an incident. A little communication would have gone a long way, but being left in the dark on a cold night was unacceptable. I hope management addresses their protocols, as the "silent treatment" during an emergency is not what I expect
