"Our first visit to Elounda Mare was in May 1987, and returning again in May 2026 felt like reconnecting with an old friend. The hotel still retains its unique charm, elegance and warm hospitality that made us fall in love with it all those years ago. Everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained, with freshly painted surroundings giving the property a lovely refreshed feel. While some fixtures and fittings would now benefit from an upgrade, this in no way detracted from the wonderfully relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We stayed in a One Bedroom Superior Suite with the most enchanting view across the stunning Mirabello Bay - waking up to that panorama every morning was truly magical. The staff throughout the hotel were exceptional. Special thanks to the amazing concierge Ioanna, who went above and beyond to help with every request, and to the ever-helpful night receptionist Mikhalis for his kindness and professionalism. It was also a pleasure meeting the interesting new manager, whose enthusiasm for the hotel was very evident. The food and beverage team were excellent throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the cocktail reception and the delightful Fish Night at the Yacht Club Restaurant. Our favourite dining experience, however, was at the Japanese restaurant Sumosan, which was absolutely outstanding. After 39 years, Elounda Mare still offers timeless charm, genuine warmth and unforgettable views. We very much hope to return soon."

Luxury villa,heating pool superior facilities ideal for families, free transfer

"I made this booking months in advance for the Spring season off peak season and I really wanted a hot tub to chill and relax in after being out most of the day. It was listed as a hot tub but really was a jetted section of the pool that was listed as ER 50 extra per day to be heated. My 25 year old son walked to the beach in the morning to swim the hot tub was for me and his 76 year old aunt so we could relax after long days of sightseeing. The villa was very beautiful and George and his wife were very nice but when someone planned for something that was in the listings then it needs to be accurate. Also a washer and dryer was listed but the dryer was locked up in the basement of the house. If I’m going to spend seven days in a house I would like to wash my clothes before I leave. I spent seven days there and never got in the pool and the jetted area ( that’s not a hot tub) never heated up enough to enjoy. Removing the word hot tub off the listing after I had paid and arrived at the property is not the best option for accommodation for the current tenants. The area is absolutely gorgeous, stunning and I would visit again but I would also choose a property that actually has a real hot. What she has may very well be suited for the hot summer months and I would encourage anyone who isn’t afraid of steep hill and want a gorgeous beach and views of Crete that is absolutely breathtaking to give it a visit but please be aware of the discrepancies. Also we would like to thank George."

"Breakfast was great, very friendly staff. The only issue we ran into was when we misplaced our room key. They give you a fob card for power in your room but they also give you a key for your room. I feel like the key is unnecessary and they should just move to the fobs but besides that it was a great place. It is on a hill with a massive incline so if your room is in the 200s or 300s be prepared for a workout. Location is great as its outside of main Elounda but only a 20min walk ( or 5 min drive )"

"We were only there for one night but were especially impressed with how clean the room/property was. We enjoyed the dinner buffet and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. Our room was very spacious and we had a chance to enjoy the balcony for our morning coffee. We would stay here again if in the area."

"What a gem of a place. We had an amazing time. We loved that each room had its own bathroom. The villa is very well stocked. We loved being able to walk down to the sea for a swim with all the fish. Would absolutely recommend. Thank you for hosting."
