Evening meals where good and the roast dinner was great value and very nice .Breakfast not included if not booked direct so was a bit of a surprise and £12.50 extra seems a bit steep when a short drive up the road is cafe 22 where a full English is only £5.50"

"Review of two night stay at Hotel 52, Stanley from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th May 2026 Check-in was online only which required a smartphone and a reliable Wi-Fi signal, there are no reception staff on site during the normal working day. The outer door was automatic so anyone could walk in. After collecting our key from a key safe we went to find our room. There was a security toggle with the key to open inner doors of the hotel but none of the security locks functioned so anyone could access all areas of the hotel. This is not safe. The only lockable door was the bedroom door. With no staff on site this is a disgraceful lack of security. We had booked a double room with en suite facilities. The room appeared to be set up for single occupancy. The bed was a ¾ size double bed with a single mattress protector. There was only one chair which was very stained, one bedside table and one bedside light. The bathroom was on a lower level and had three steep steps down with handrails either side. Both handrails were almost completely pulled from the wall and would have offered no support to a person who stumbled on the steps. There was no shaver socket in the bathroom and the hot water feed to the wash-hand basin was barely tepid. The shower was warm enough. Two bath towels were supplied and two mugs for tea/coffee. These were the only sign that the room was for double occupancy. There was no bin in the room for any litter we might have and it was not clear that housekeeping was only o"

"The hotel was lovely and old. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had an issue with no hot water, however the management did their very best to accommodate the problem asap and apologetic. The food in the stable restaurant was yum! Overall, a great stay."

"Beautiful property. Pulling in the drive is stunning. The interior is well decorated. The building itself is obviously older and it shows in certain areas: the toilet was unreliable, small cracks, bit of discolouration on tiles, and the pool floor isn’t sealed well so it has bumps and bounces. The room we booked for a family was perfect. The separation wall made the room feel much bigger and the kids loved having their own space. The TV selection was very basic and the TVs themselves were very slow. The staff were all wonderful and very helpful. I did have to ask a lot of questions as some information wasn’t given initially but it wasn’t too inconvenient. The swim times for children was a bit annoying because we had to plan our day around it but I understand why they’re in place. We just would have liked a bit more freedom to choose when we wanted to go rather than set times. The bed we had wasn’t super comfortable, the mattress slanted on the edge. The pillows desperately need an update. They were very flat and offered no support. However the kids single beds were comfortable for them. The restaurant menu looked good but was expensive so we chose to eat elsewhere. Except for dessert which we did get through room service. The sticky toffee pudding was top 3 best we ever had. The grounds are vast and great for a wander. Overall, good stay. We would stay again as the experience itself outweighed any issues we had."

"Great family room with so much space for us all, met at reception in the evening by lovely helpful staff. The bar area was lovely, breakfast with plenty of choice and a nice garden and park area for us in the morning before our travel"

"There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the quality was good. The staff were lovely also. My only minor niggle and it is minor weight only got two tea bags in the room. (I'm a big tea drinker) I'm sure that if I had asked more would have been provided. Plus usually in hotels you get a little biscuit on the tea tray which there wasn't. But a bonus tick in the bathroom was individual shampoo and conditioner and shower gel. More than happy with my stay thank you "

"Beautiful venue. Menu fairly limited and expensive but dining room experience was lovely. Room well appointed but dispensers didn’t work and the tv was tricky to operate."
