The view from the top of Devil's Peak is jaw-dropping, even on a day socked in with clouds.
About three quarters of a mile before the summit, I climbed a twenty-foot ridge to get this view. Shortly thereafter, hip-deep in snow, we decided to abandon the effort and return on a warmer day. You cannot understand disappointment until you have climbed a mile in the air, thwarted by false trails, downed trees and thick snow to arrive a hundred feet below and a half-mile away from your goal, only to abandon the very thing you set out to accomplish. Not all good decisions leave you satisfied.
The rain came in about a half-mile from the trailhead on our way back to the car. But there were clouds hanging around all day. This is fairly usual weather in Oregon and Washington, though not particularly in the summer. Truth be told, we haven't seen much of it this year.

We love it because our daughter and family live close (in Sandy). We like to have a close place to stay during the holidays so we don't have a long drive after big holiday meals at her house. Good local restaurants in the area too.

Lovely village with beautiful church and great priest - loved visiting for mass on Sunday. Also attended a community spaghetti dinner with locals which was fun and we got a picture with Santa!

The only negative about the property was no air conditioning in the unit. This is a real drawback.The unit was very hot. Staff should have warned us and provided fan Management should move to install air conditioning like the zonal Mitsubishi units.
