Staff were great, the room was ok but could do with a bit of TLC. Decent size bath with shower. Coffee and tea making was provided and a 24 inch LG TV with freeview channels. Slept well.
The property was nice and clean / tidy and a lovely place to stay and nice and quiet too. The bar staff was nice and friendly and Megan was kind friendly as well, and I was happy with the bar service and the food was nice too.

I stayed here last year and gave it a 5-star review. Naturally, being in the same area I stayed here again. The experience wasn’t as nice. Apparently, it’s under new management and they don’t have the necessary staff for full service yet. It’s a lovely bucolic location and a historic building so I wish the management best of luck.
Easy on arrival, turned up at 2245, dark and not obvious where to go but eventually found entrance round the back. Called a no. and let us in. Clean bedding, Double bed really comfy but the old hard futon that made 2 short singles was very uncomfortable and we slept quite badly. Left at 08:30 and Nowhere to leave keys so had to call the no. again and wake owner up.
The first impression upon entering reception (it's in the pub) is that you feel like you've walked into the crime series Midsummer Murder and are looking to find Barneby.
Our room was great, large bed, nice bathroom.
You are greeted very warmly and uprightly, and you feel like you've been treated to a very good life.
The Walnut Tree is located in a small village (approx. 400 inhabitants) and is very peaceful and full of character, making it the perfect place if you want peace and relaxation.
We were the guests who stayed the longest, with 18 nights. We ate dinner every day and sometimes lunch too. The food is excellent; we give the kitchen 11 out of 10 stars. I can only recommend the food.
During our time as guests, we became very close to the landlord and his wife and the staff, and a friendship developed. Furthermore, when you are open to other people like we are, we were also able to make contact with the local residents, and all of this gave us the feeling that we were part of the community.
We would therefore like to express our thanks to the landlord, Peter and his wife Janine, and of course to the staff (Kira, Barbara, Megan, Rachel, and the young bartender).
I would also like to express our thanks to the local people (Jeff, Joe, Paul, and Sharon); it's nice to have friends, thank you.
We can definitely recommend The Walnut Tree and we will be back.
PS: It's a village hotel with a pub, and not a Big City Hotel, where you have 24 Hour service.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and the pub/hotel has a lovely oldie world feel to it. The surroundings were very peaceful. The service was also faultless - when we asked for a couple of things to be changed in the room it was done immediately. The Walnut Tree was excellent value for what we paid.
The only reason I have not given five stars is that the room was a little chilly when we arrived - but that resolved, and one mattress in our twin room (ref to landlord – the one nearest the window) could have done with a topper or updating. But that is not to denigrate what is a really lovely hotel for a great price.
Really enjoyed our stay, the room was spotless and comfortable, breakfast was lovely and the staff and locals very welcoming in the pub. The only issue we had was the temperature of the shower, we couldn't turn the temperature down and it was so hot it was burning our skin, we did inform staff. Not the end of the world as there was a nice bath, my partner however has a knee injury and did struggle with the bath.
There was plenty of parking, the location was quiet and it was a perfect chill setting, would highly recommend.

i spoke with manager and they are bringing this hotel back from being shut it is a slow process and a couple of things were not right . bed throw was stained with wine or blood on underside shower head held up with cable ties bathroom door would not close minor things that just need sorting food how ever was excellent and great value would stay here again hope you find the info helpfull not derogative
We booked for 3 night's, just needed somewhere to sleep and get something to eat. We left after a few hours, pub and restaurant closed , noisy neighbours, paperthin walls and extremely noisy pipework. Dont waste your money.
We arrived on the Saturday 27th December at 8.30pm, we had phoned ahead having been delayed by roadworks on the M6.
The premises appeared closed, all doors locked I saw someone in the bar area, and he came out and gave me the Key to Room 8 (Chestnut Room) and said he was closing up for the night.
No handover information from him or in the room just the key.
There were two radiators in the room, the one nearest the door did not work and the other one worked but you could not control it. It felt like the central heating had been switched off before we arrived and it did not come back on till 8am the next morning when the room was bitterly cold.
The Wi-Fi information we could see through the bar window did not work.
In the morning, we walked around the outside and it appear dilapidated and definitely uncared for.
It was at that point we packed up and saw a member of staff working in the Kitchen Preparation area, we knocked on the window, and she unlocked the bar door and told us they did not open till 12.00 noon . I handed over the keys to the room and told her we would not be staying the second night.
Yes, they had put new carpet in the room, and the Shower room was clean BUT no heating , no restaurant , no open bar, no reception staff and no warning of reduced staffing / early closures despite their description of the premises on various websites.
