"We were a group of nature lovers who were using this as a three night stay to get used to the temperature and time change upon arrival in Borneo. Loved the grounds and snorkeling right from the beach. Fantastic nature center staffed by several biologists. The food options were a bit pricey but we were expecting that. The grounds were very birdy and we found two Borean Pit Vipers. The mangrove tour was fantastic. Room is very good quality for the price."

"The hotel is located only 20-min drive from Mari Mari Cultural Village and offers great views of both sunset from the restaurant and the sunrise from the Rose Villa. The only disappointing thing was the long wait for breakfast, which caused us to leave for Kinabalu Park much later than we planned. Once the restaurant service improves, this will be the perfect hotel."

Great stop off of you are travelling elsewhere in Borneo but I don't think it's a holiday destination for me personally.
"Spacious clean rooms. Friendly staff. Incredible food. Excellent location- walking distance to the food markets, Sunday markets, the ferry port and malls. Special mention again to all staff there- extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great stay, thank you!"
"The Shangti-La is just a step up from other hotels. Yes, it's big and busy but the staff go out of their way to really spoil you. I'm vegan and they bent over backwards to ensure I had a great breakfast, sent soy milk to my room tweaked dishes so I ate well. And the location - oh my. We stayed in a garden room and could walk straight out looking at the sea. Room had a shower and a bath, was well stocked. Water in the fridge every day. Their Spa was great too. I can't think of anything bad about the place. We just didn't want to leave. "
