Learn more about Hiratsuka

Tanabata Festival transforms Hiratsuka's streets with colorful decorations and parades each July, while locals welcome visitors to sample fresh seafood at Hiratsuka Fish Market. Nearby Shonan Beach offers perfect sunset views and swimming opportunities when summer temperatures rise.

Every year in summer, a Star Festival is held called Tanabata. Two star deities, Orihime and Hikoboshi, can meet each other in the night sky. Theirs is a tragic love story, but children celebrate them by writing wishes on streamers to fly to the heavens. This festival is a major event in Sendai, but it's smaller cousin in Hiratsuka is also impressive and a lot of fun! Wear your yukata or jinbei!
