"Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. Room was spacious, immaculate, bed comfortable, and well supplied with coffee, tea, and a minibar with wines, juices, and a few snacks. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, making it unnecessary for us to butcher the beautiful French language 😉. Our breakfast was delightful with local breads, cheeses, and a nice selection of meats, eggs, juices, and coffees/tea. We will gladly return during our next stop in Angouleme. We highly recommend the Hotel Le Saint Gelais as the best option for a stay hotel in Angouleme."

We felt warmly welcomed and cared for from the moment of arrival to our departure. Breakfast was also delicious, and the sound of the river rushing by outside our window and the dining room was heavenly.
