Langley Castle Hotel

"Yes, its an historic castle, but one that owns its current form to its restoration (from a ruin) in the early 20th century. We stayed in a Superior Room (1st floor) in the "Castle View" block - formerly the castle stables. Large, comfortable and very clean with a good bathroom. Perhaps a little too warm, but window and skylight open for ventilation. Although we did not choose the tasting menu, dinner was fabulous and wine by the glass excellent. Breakfast too was great (I particularly enjoyed the Craster kippers). All the staff we met during our stay were polite, helpful and friendly."

"We had a fantastic midweek holiday with 2 adults and 4 children (ages 10 - 15). Even though the lodge is a bit dated it has everything you need and was extremely comfortable. It was so peaceful at night and I had some of the best night sleep in a long time. Towels and bedding were provided, which is always welcome, and the hottub was well looked after - which added additional value to the already value or money stay. Be prepared to drive 20-25mins to the local shops and sites, but the location is worth it. We visited different roman sites each day and the scenery as you drive is fantastic."

"Our stay was relaxing which reflects the quiet nature of Allendale Town and its surrounding area. The cottage has been thoughtfully modernised with a kitchen that is both effective in use of space and stylishly fitted out, along with lots of useful equipment. In addition, the hosts very kindly provided "fallback provisions" (e.g. tinned beans, cereal, crackers) and the cottage has plenty of books, music CDs and maps which makes it feel like being in someone's home, rather than just in a "Let". The hosts also have a good eye for curios and have furnished the cottage with miscellaneous antique items which add to the cosy charm. Access to the cottage is easy and the advice from the hosts was simple to follow; and the Visitor Guide was equally helpful and detailed. We saw Glenn from next door (one of the neighbours who act as on-hand agents whilst the hosts are not present) who was very friendly and confirmed useful things like where to park and how to open the door to the cottage.Across the bridge is a handy restaurant - Spice Valley (an Indian takeaway) - which has a basic unlicenced restaurant but who food (both "in" and "out") was very tasty whilst not being "standard curry". Walking along the riverside either way from the cottage (to Catton or Allendale Town) was simple, with a climb at either end. In both cases, sitting having a drink outside the pub after the climb was very sociable and reflected the very friendly conversations we had with Allendale locals generally."

"Loved the cottage and we had a great stay here at the end of September 24. The rooms are large and comfortable, we particularly liked the large kitchen and dining room. Our dog loved the large dog bed in the kitchen.The beds were good and having two bathrooms was great with 5 adults.The only negatives were the lighting in the lounge which is too dark, I like to craft and sew but couldn't because of the lighting and we couldn't play games in the lounge for the same reason. We noticed you had an advert in the window for a cleaner and whilst most of the cottage was very clean, the lounge needs a bit of attention there were rather a lot of cobwebs on the walls and the floor was very dusty, especially around the edges of the room. Also it would help if there was a vacuum cleaner in the cottage so that guests could clean during their stay.The location is great, the village is beautiful and in s stunning area, we loved the small pub at the top of the hill. Whilst the cottage does not have a garden walking the dog was easy and there is a large green outside the property for night time pee's. Hexham is a short drive away and great to visit and Beamish Museum is approx 75 mins away.I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it for both families and adult groups."
