The room was clean and spacious. The view was like something out of a movie, amazing!
Slightly disappointed to find out the restaurant was pizzas only but the pizza was nice. Breakfast was also a slight let down, not much hot food to offer there than hotdog sausages and eggs. There were no pastries left when we went up
Beautiful area. Amazing view from our balcony. Good shower. Comfy bed. Had a good meal at the restaurant

Sat nav took us through a very narrow but exciting route from the Swiss side but the majestic views of the lake were rewarding . It is an older hotel but rooms are spacious and clean. Very helpful and friendly staff,

Let me begin by saying that this is one of the most beautiful resorts in the world! The architecture is fantastic with private balconies on every room which allow personal, gorgeous views that one will never forget. Built at the turn of the twentieth century, the property has been maintained well. Considering that the resort sits atop a very high peak overlooking a beautiful lake in the Alps, that is no small feat. The interior has been well preserved, shiny and clean. The rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. That’s the good side of the experience. On the down side, the staff, the restaurant, the unwelcoming atmosphere, not so good. We got the feeling from check in until departure that we were a big inconvenience. Not rude, just indifferent, not friendly. We sat in the restaurant for half an hour, completely ignored, while a small group (we assumed they were locals) had a get together, and finally walked out. We drove around the mountain a short way and found a small restaurant where we had the most wonderful home cooked meal we could have dreamed of. No breakfast, no coffee, no restaurant.
I would definitely stay here again, but with no expectations of service.

A balcony with a view
It's really an experience to visit this hotel. Rooms and breakfast is as can be expected for the price range but the view from the balconies makes up for everything! would highly recommend to make a stop here - I will again in the future.
Charming hotel which has it's quirks but that's all part of the experience with fantastic staff who made us feel very welcome and satisfied.
The view was fabulous and the food was terrific and the staff were brilliant.
The road up to the hotel is not for the faint hearted (Strada da Valmara) so take their advice on how to reach the property if you are not very confident with mountain roads.
Super accommodating. We booked last minute because another hotel booking fell through & upon checking in we were upgraded to a lake view room. Mohammed at the restaurant was very good to us.
Try finding a hotel with that view for that price anywhere in the world, the pictures just can't capture how amazing it is.
Breakfast was the best I've had and worth £30+ but was included.
Rooms were the cleanest by far I've stayed in and we are on a roadtrip around europe.
The receptionist was very helpful and the owner went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. For the fact they have only just opened I'd get in while the prices are cheap as they will surely go up with popularity.
Top recommendation from the owner, go and see the Balcony of Italy that is 15mins away WOW!
When we arrived at the Hotel Funicolare we were greeted with a breathtaking view & this really is one of the hotel's best features. We were also pleasantly suprised to be given a family room (which we had booked) which was actually 2 rooms that were adjoining giving us lots of space, 2 bathrooms and 3 balconies. The rooms had, I believe, just been renovated and they were very charming and clean as were the stairs and entry area. There were a few niggles though. The lights in the hallway were on a sensor and timer and so if you were entering the hallway from your room, it was pitch black until you were within range of the sensor. Now for the worse bit, the restaurant! Breakfast was wonderful with amazing croissants and everything else was yummy! However, I was not impressed with the evening service. First of all, the pizza oven was not working for the 2 nights we were there which made up for 70% of the menu. When we requested one of the 6 other choices we were told that that wasn't available and the wine I wanted wasn't available either. What we did get that night was pretty good. The 2nd night (Wednesday) was so busy and they just couldn't cope, service was slow, there was no 'sorry', there were people walking away because pizza wasn't available. When my Spaghetti alle Vongole finally arrived it was nothing special and hardly had any sauce, I could have done better myself at home! Very disappointing and really put a dampner on what would've been an amazing stay!
The stay was amazing, staff were very kind and approachable. The only thing I can say is breakfast wasn't included and with the hotel being secluded we didn't have an option to have breakfast elsewhere, and the hotel didn't have a variety to choose from. Everything else was amazing fantastic views.
The location surrounded by mountains and trees allowed for a pleasant night when a heat wave in Europe was making most of the continent simply unbearable.
The hotel is Fab! The view is worth every penny and highly recommend getting a room with a view of the lake as watching sunset from the balcony was incredible. All the staff were very welcoming and helpful with any questions. The restaurant/ Bar was also fab with gorgeous pizzas for good value and could see a lot of locals visit to sit and enjoy the view. Parking was also never an issue. Only issue I would say is the lack of aircon. They do provide fans in the rooms but one of our nights it wasn’t quite enough and struggled sleeping but would still stay again.
Where do I begin?
I took my wife here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and it was an unforgettable experience. The breathtaking views overlooking Lake Lugano made every moment of our stay feel special. We truly loved every second of it.
The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and helpful throughout our visit. Their hospitality felt genuine and heartfelt rather than forced. Even team members who didn’t speak English well made a sincere effort to answer our questions and ensure we felt welcome.
A special shout-out goes to the restaurant manager, Firas. He is a genuinely warm and hospitable person who went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. His attention to detail and dedication to guest satisfaction did not go unnoticed. I’d also like to thank the wonderful lady (did not grab her name, afternoon shift) at the front desk, who was exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to recharge, relax, and immerse themselves in beautiful natural
Beautiful hotel and amazing view. Out of this world. Follow the advice on which streets to take up, we drove up the very adventurous and narrow road up, wouldn’t recommend for the faint of heart (especially with a big car). But in the end totally worth it.
The staff were all super friendly and helpful, the pizza was amazing and the breakfast was typically Italian. Don’t expect a German or American type of breakfast. Everything was tasty and fresh.
You will not be disappointed, for the views alone. I would definitely come again if I’m in the area. 10/10
