It was our first time visiting Costa Rica. The stay at Lucky bug B&b was nothing short of awesome. It's run by Rob and Monica who were very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast is prepared by Monica herself, and she could be the best cook in town! The property itself is very serene, lots of birds chirping early in the morning. We truly enjoyed our stay in this little paradise.

Hosts Monica and Rob go above and beyond. Monica is a very gifted chef. Everything was perfect. Great birdwatcing, even took a couple of refreshing dips in tbeir pond.

An amazing place for nature lover !

We had a wonderful time at the Lucky Bug. Very clean , cozy, attention to details makes this B&B a place we would return any time. A beautiful tropical garden is surrounding . Rob was a great host available at any time and making sure we have everything we needed. Breakfast was very good, served on a terrace with an amazing view , lots of Hummingbirds and Iguana on the tree. We just loved everything !

Peaceful Retreat

Lucky Bug was a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The host greeted us warmly as he showed us to our room. The artistic touches in the room and on the grounds mirrored tactfully much of the external natural beauty of the place. The stars were beautiful upon our arrival (which may not be the norm) and the music of nature chorused loudly changing its tune to silence in the middle of the night to a new chorus of birds as the night progressed to day. The balcony of our room was a great place to sit and birdwatch while waiting for breakfast time. The food was fantastic and the view from the opposite side of the pond was also lovely. The service was warm and welcoming. We arrived by the road from La Fortuna after dark. There are no lines on the narrow serpentine road making it a bit of a stressful night drive. By day the same road had many lovely views.

I was met at the property by Rob, one of the two owners, who showed me to my room. The room was well-appointed and the bathroom was exquisitely decorated in tile and tasteful additions. Rob handed me soap wrapped in leaves from the land. He left as I settled in, but returned later to see if I would like an individual pizza as he and Monica were going out. He returned later with not only the hot and tasty pizza, but also bottle of wine to go with it. This visit was also preceded by travel misfortune. Again, I had no WIFI, and I wasted an hour or two going around in circle in Grecia. Then, when I hit the "highway", I still had no WIFI, so some mis-turns led to a near empty gas tank again. I asked for help from a gentleman walking on the side of the road. The nearest gas station was too far for me to drive with almost no gas. So, this gentleman, Luis, led me to his house, called his friend Fernando to come over, get a gas can, and travel the distance to pick up two gallons of gas. As we waited for him to return, we shared pictures of our families, drank, Coke and ate some of those wonderful Costa Rican cookies. Just as we finished, Fernando came with the gas. He filled the tank, left, and I requested his and Luis' address. I am so impressed with the all Costa Rican people I have met who go out of their ways to be friendly and helpful to me - a total stranger. The hosts of the places I have stayed during this trip have been gracious, thoughtful, and wonderful!

Amazing place to stay!

What an amazing place! The setting is absolutely gorgeous! The owners were so attentive and helpful and the breakfasts were the best we had our whole trip. We decided to eat at the restaurant the first night and our meals were so good that we ate there our second night as well. We used this place as our base to explore from and are really glad we did. Highly recommend the Lucky Bug!

Lucky Bug was the highlight of my CR trip! A magical oasis in paradise. A favorite experience ever. I stayed in the Frog room overlooking the lake. The owner is an artist and has designed every piece with intention. My only regret is not staying longer. Thanks you Rob and Monica for welcoming me into your palace.

it was the best treasure we have found on our trip. We felt like family, the food was incredible, the owners and their family were the best!! I hope they look us up if they are ever in Maryland. Lovely unique property. Needs better lighting and needs to give better check in directions. Most obvious place labeled “Lucky Bug” was dark and locked -turns out this was breakfast place/restaurant and souvenir shop. B and B was down the road and not well marked in the dark ( my flight was cancelled and I arrived later than planned, just at dark. I sent a message but got no response) My room was advertised as “lake view” -turned out it was not Lake Arenal, but a pond on the property. Owners/ staff were very nice, and assisted with luggage which was great since I had been up all night at airport.
