"The breakfast buffet was extravaganza! I never seen that much extent of options and they were top notch! It is a big hotel so they had to limit time so we got busy exploring different items. We did not have dinner there but I wonder what it would have been like. We went out to a local mom and pop bar. The immediate area did not seem to have many options for eating out though. The hot spring bath was nice. We enjoyed going between inside and olhalf-outside baths. We didn't do this but saw used the sauna and cold bath. The view from the room was wonderful, looking at snow-capped mountain ridges. The only con is that we were a family of 5 and had to get separated into two rooms. It would have been nice to stay together in one room with five futons. Maybe they were out of bigger rooms when we booked? The location was good for a car access. It is away from the city center of Nagano so if you travel by train, a taxi ride would be needed. But we were pleasantly surprised by what this Matsushiro area had to offer. After checking out we drove a few minutes to the Matsushiro historic residential area, parked, strolled the old Shinto shrine and Buddhist temples. Then we toured into the enormous cave that Imperial Japan dug near the end of WWII to move the headquarter from Tokyo. They never actually moved, but they preserved the cave as a historic site. big military "

"Pretty new looking hotel. Room for was clean and modern. Bathroom was bigger than other hotel rooms I’ve stayed at in Japan. Staff were nice, and they offer free soba or ice cream nightly from 8-10pm. Close to the station, castle, and izakaya and restaurant area."

"Charming property exceptionally clean, special mention of the wonderful onsen, enjoyed our most unusual experience of sleeping in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats. Our dinner in the restaurant was superb, kudos to the skilled chef! Matsumoto is a lovely town with a slow paced vibe , so different from other Japanese cities."

"Old Showa style minimalistic ryokan, but the room for 5 was spacepus (double room) and the tatami beds and beddings arw comfortable. Self-service to put the futon (which was no problem for us). Power plugs and Wifi were abundant. We were fine with steps but for eldery or disabled it may be a challenge. The hot spring bath was nice. The temperature may be on a hot side but i think it is pretty standard. The tub was indeed made of wood (I assume hinoki).The place seemed to have a fair number of day-use customers. Just a few groups staying overnight when we stayed. The breakfast was healthy, a variety of mostly plant-based items, and very tasty. We loved it. The ton-jiru was fantastic and we had a second. The location is a kind of quiet area away from towns. Only car access. We were worried about dinner options but the hotel fromt person suggested some options and the closest one worked. It was interesting to walk in the quiet neighborhood of summer houses and such. We were happy to have found this place. "
