Balboa Inn, On the Beach

"The best things about the Balboa Inn are the location and the staff. The bell staff and front desk were consistently friendly, helpful and pleasant, and the hotel is just steps from the beach, restaurants and shops. We also took a day trip to Catalina Island, and being able to walk easily from the hotel to the ferry was incredibly convenient. That said, the condition of the rooms was disappointing. Our room was extremely small and essentially consisted of a bed with very little additional space. The floors and baseboards were visibly dirty, the walls needed repainting, the room had a strange odor and the room overall felt very dated and poorly maintained. We traveled with a group, and everyone booked the same room category, yet the rooms were surprisingly inconsistent. Some people received balconies, some had noticeably larger rooms, and others ended up with very basic, no-frills rooms like ours. For the same room type and price point, that inconsistency was frustrating. The rooftop “pool” should also be described more accurately. It is really a small spool rather than a true swimming pool, and the hot tub comfortably fits about two people. We watched the water overflow the sides when more than two adults and a child got in. The location is fantastic and the staff deserves credit, but the property itself is overdue for a deep cleaning, renovation and better consistency in its guest rooms."

"The property location was amazing. The property was very clean and had all the kitchen essentials. We had a wonderful stay. The one thing I would mention that could have been better is the quality of furniture. Reminded me of IKEA furniture. Not very durable. The rental states it sleeps 6, which it does but the couch is a futon sectional so that isn’t very comfortable and sleeping on it for a week is not something I would consider reasonable. If they invested in a new couch and a new dining table and chairs that would be top notch. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy your home."

"First off, let me start off by saying that the house was great. Our trip was great. Everything was awesome. The only problem we had with this property was that the floors were not cleaned prior to us arriving. The property management did what they thought was the best by delivering a mop for us to clean the floor with. They did offer the cleaners to come while we were not in the house to clean, but that was not an option for us as we had our valuables inside the house. Other than that, everything was awesome. It’s close to the ferry. It’s close to Marine Street. It’s a great location."

"Property was close to town, the ferry and shopping off island. We had a wonderful stay celebrating our granddaughter’s baptism on Father’s Day on the Island and our 44th Wedding Anniversary. Memories were definitely made."

"The property size to accommodate our party was perfect. Particularly that each group had their own bathroom. The seventh room and bathroom probably should be clarified that it is not in the home and that it size is quite small. We did not utilize that room as our party had gotten smaller. However, had we planned on using all seven rooms that would’ve been disappointing to have people outside of the actual home. Other than that, we found the home to be perfectly suited for our family. The home is older. It does have that beach wood odor to it. I don’t think that there’s anything that can be done about that. Otherwise everything was quite clear the codes available everything opened as we anticipated. We did have one issue with a water faucet in one of the downstairs bathrooms on our last day, which was readily responded to Thank you for having us and we would consider renting this property again. There were 13 of us the location to the surrounding amenities in bubble Bay and the beach with the extra parking lot that is adjacent was very accommodating to what we needed."
