Due to city permitting process, the hotel wasn't open when I arrived. They had tried to call me, but I didn't answer the phone as I didn't recognize the number. They had already booked me into a sister property with a better room down the street. Not their fault that I was tired, cranky, my back hurt from dragging my suitcase around on cobblestone sidewalks and my phone's battery was almost dead.
They manager on duty let me in, charged my phone for me, offered me a drink, and called the other property to have someone come get me and carry my bags down to their hotel. Even though I was several hours early for check in they got me into a room immediately.
Everyone was extremely apologetic and very nice. The last day of my stay they comped a late checkout and bought me a drink in the hotel bar. I could not have had a better experience.
My thanks to Cada, Nikolai, and Merete for their outstanding service. These properties are very, very lucky to have them.
