Alfred's Tower A triangular commemorative folly with circular turrets at each corner, it was completed in 1766 by Henry Hoare (the Younger) of Stourhead in tribute to the achievements of King Alfred. There is a larger than life sized statue of King Alfred on the other side of the tower. Grade I Listed.

Every single member of staff went out of their way to be helpful, creating an atmosphere of genuine hospitality that made us feel completely at ease. One of the highlights was receiving all-time access to the pool. This was such a treat, especially as The Gainsborough is the only hotel in the UK to offer natural thermal baths.
