When we got there we found out the hotel didnt exist anymore. After a bit of exploring we found where we were booked, and it was crummy to say the least

Our group of 6 girls stayed in an 8 bed dorm on 31 Dec 2013. We have stayed in numerous hostels both internationally & nationally. This one takes the cake! We encountered the following:
CLEANLINESS: I can't comment on the kitchen (but on appearance, it appeared very grotty). However, the room we were given was disgusting.
- The floors were disgusting. Under the beds were covered in dust & dirt along with various pieces of rubbish.
- The bins in the bedroom & bathroom hadn't been emptied for who knows how long. The guy on reception, claimed the rooms had been cleaned & proceeded to empty the bedroom bin.
- The surfaces were covered in dust & dirt.
- There was left over products ie shampoo, soap etc in the shower. Not to mention hair, mould etc
- There was also urine on the toilet seat.
- There was a large louvre missing from the only window.
- The furniture was falling apart, with at least one cupboard door just placed inside the unit.
- The airconditioner had what appeared to be faulty wiring with duct tape covering it. The airconditioner was coin operated, which did not work to start with. We were advised it would be complimentary after 8pm. When this did not take place, we were told it would be 9pm. Upon arriving back to the room at 1.30am, it still was only operational via coin deposit. We were not going to set our alarms hourly to keep the airconditioner running! With the missing louvre, it almost defeated the purpose anyway. This was in the middle of summer!
SECURITY: They sleep in the dorms like the guests do. If there's an issue, the after hours number doesn't get answered. We were lucky 2 other guests knew which room the security guy was in (asleep).
On a side note, their website for Nomads esplanade, is very misleading. If you look at the photo gallery, it shows a swimming pool. This place does not have a swimming pool. It shows lovely clean rooms, not so. It says the rooms are airconditioned, but there is no mention that it is coin operated!
The Hostel refuses to refund our money.
DO NOT STAY HERE! The photos are not indicative of the establishment. There are other better hostels in Cairns!
Room was as clean as a garden shed, bed was little better than sleeping on exposed springs, and the other guests must decide their rooms are so uncomfortable that they would rather stay up all night shouting and getting drunk.

Excessively close to the lagoon was too good. With location close to the ferry terminal was also useful for various activities. Using a double room, but also nice and clean and the reception from early this morning until late at night anxious to ask you good. Those who daily cleaning of bins with a neat clean cleaner cleaning clear the halls and defragment fragmented sigo letting could comfortably accommodate. If he wants to or staying in the following.
Apart from the location & friendliness of the staff, I was bitterly disappointed with this accomodation. The info was misleading when booked, not once did it say we would be sharing a bathroom when we booked a double room. When we got there I struggled to get my small suitcase through the room as it was that tight. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. There were cigarette butts in the room. There was constant noise every night we stayed until the early hours of the morning even though there was a sign saying no noise after 10pm. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to family or friends.
Even though this hostel was mostly dirty (walls and floor were dirty, Bed and linen was clean), I would definatley stay here again for the location alone. Its the only thing that saves this hostel
Let me start off by saying that this was the first time I had ever stayed at a hostel and that I wanted to stay somewhere inexpensive, so I could have more money to have fun with. Being the first time staying at a hostel and the fact that I was alone, I opted to get a private room to suit my comfort level. That was a little less than double the rate of the "dorm rooms". I would also like to point out that for around the same price I got a 3 star hotel in Naha, Okinawa Japan! I'm not sure what I was expecting the place to be like but I was not prepared for what I experienced. The front desk where you check in/out is not in a lobby or even in doors, but a little enclave on the sidewalk. So you have all your bags and stuff and you're checking in with all these shops and people walking about. The staff working there were very young (perhaps to connect to their target demographic, backpackers) and came off as unprofessional. The room I stayed in was not attached to the front desk but a few shops down where there was a locked security door. The room itself was tiny, I would guess 15' x 6' maybe a little bigger, with nothing but a metal framed bed and a plastic chair. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillow they provided simply sucked. I had to buy one just be able to fall asleep (also had to buy a towel). Thankfully it was air-conditioned albeit by a noisy window unit. Overall nothing more than a place to keep your stuff safe and a place to sleep.
While the location is great, it is quite hard to spot from the road. The entrance and the sign advertising Nomads is obscured from view by the awning for the restuarant next door. Walking along the pavement it's easy to spot.
As part of the booking, an entree sized meal is included, however, since the kitchen is closed you are now provided with a breakfast of tea/coffee, toast and cereal. As my plans had involved dinner at Nomads and not breakfast, I was eventually provided with a $5 refund in lieu.
This process was frustrating and required a great deal of 'negotiation'.
I was very pleased with the rest of the acommodation provided.
