Given that it's a hostel and the price is so low, I wasn't expecting much. But the Mayan Monkey was amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming (shout out to Javiera and David), the public areas were lively and engaging, the food and drinks were great, and my bunk was comfortable, cool, and quiet. I was pleasantly surprised, and would definitely stay here again.

J'y suis resté 2 semaines en dortoir, tout était très bien. C'est très propre, bien géré. Les employés(es) travaillent bien. La situation du lieu est excellente (restos tout près, dépanneur 24 h en face, plage à 3 minutes.).Tous les accès à la plage sont surveillés par des miltaires, ainsi, aucun vendeur, aucun chien, aucun truand. L'eau est cristalline et le sable doux et propre. Le bar central est animé les soirs avec de la musique un peu forte. À 23 h, tout s'éteint. Silence total. Il ya de grands clubs à 10 minutes à pied, dont le fameux Coco Bongo. Les points faibles : il n'y a qu'un petit rond pour cuisiner et presque aucun équipement, un vieux grille-pain, et très peu d'ustensiles et de tasses. Le frigo débordait souvent. Aussi, il est interdit d'y mettre des boissons alcooliques, elles sont confisquées. Et vous ne pouvez en boire dans l'auberge, sauf si elles viennent du bar. Pour ma part, je cuisinais mes déjeuners sur place mais vers midi et les soirs, je mangeais au grand restaurant de Chadraui. Le plus plaisant, il est possible d'y acheter du vin et de la bière et d'en consommer au restaurant. Grand choix au menu et cuisiné en direct. On peut voyager avec les bus publics fréquents portant le logo R-2 pour 12 pesos, environ $1. Et pour ce prix, ils se rendent jusqu'au Walmart en ville. On peut payer dans les bus. Pour aller à Gran Plaza, c'est juste les bus R2-15. Magellan du Québec.

Grille-pain à changer. Il cuit d'un seul côté.

L'unique petit rond pour cuisiner. Le 23 janvier, il n'y avait qu'une seule fourchette et une seule tasse, pour 27 unités d'hébergement.

Superbe plage avec accès tout près de l'auberge. Pas de chien,pas de vendeur. Le Bonheur.

I stayed at Maya Monkey Hostel in Cancún and overall had a great experience for the price. The location is excellent, the staff are friendly, and check-in and check-out were very efficient. The room and bed were a bit small, and cleanliness could be improved, but considering the price, it was reasonable. I think this is a great hostel in a prime location, especially for solo travelers.

Excellent place to stay for solo travelers, close to the party places and their bar and patio also have amazing views and serve good cocktails. Totally loved my stay there..

I stayed at Mayan Monkey for 14 nights in an 8-bed dorm, and overall I had an excellent experience. The room had plenty of space, with two water closets, two showers, and two sinks, so waiting to clean up was rarely an issue. Lockers were large and secure — big enough to store everything without feeling cramped. Hot water was always available, which is something I really appreciated. I didn’t use the bar, but it added to the lively atmosphere. The kitchen was functional but small, and the shared fridge was pretty chaotic. There were baskets for personal food storage, but almost all of them were full. It worked, just wasn’t the most organized. Because of that, I mostly bought my meals and drinks at Super Selecto Chedraui — only about a 10-minute walk away and super convenient. The crowd was one of the best parts — energetic, friendly, mostly younger travelers who liked to interact and socialize. The computer room overlooking the kitchen/bar area was a great space to relax or get things done while still feeling connected to the vibe below. The location couldn’t be better. Beach access is directly across the street and even has a public restroom. The area felt light, fun, and uplifting. Compared to Nomad’s Party Hostel, Mayan Monkey had a happier, more relaxed feel while still being social. Even if it costs a little more, I think the beach access alone makes it worth it. I’d absolutely stay here again.
