Canterbury and its attractions for beach lovers

Canterbury, while primarily renowned for its historic charm and cultural heritage, is a gateway to some stunning coastal experiences just a short drive away. Travelers can explore the scenic Whitstable Beach, famous for its colorful beach huts and fresh seafood stalls; here, you can enjoy a relaxing day by the sea or indulge in oysters from local vendors. Alternatively, head to Herne Bay, where a beautiful pebble beach awaits, complemented by a charming pier and vibrant seafront gardens—perfect for family picnics or leisurely strolls. For history enthusiasts, a visit to the nearby Dover Castle offers breathtaking views of the coastline, while the white cliffs create a stunning backdrop for hikes. If you’re seeking a more tranquil experience, the sandy shores of Tankerton offer a quieter ambiance for sunbathing and beach games. When it comes to accommodation, consider staying in the quaint area of Whitstable, where boutique hotels provide a cozy retreat just steps away from the beach, allowing for easy exploration of the local cafes and shops. Expect attentive service and quality amenities that cater to families, ensuring a memorable seaside escape.

The Falstaff Hotel

The Falstaff Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"We had a 'cozy' room, meaning tiny, but it was nicely furnished with a TV and nice bathroom with a strong shower. The receptionist staff was friendly and helpful, pointing out the happy hour at the bar. 2 for 1 deal plus a cheese plate. The hotel is centrally located with parking behind ( parking in Canterbury is expensive). Very close to the town center and restaurants. Decent breakfast choices. The 14th century building successfully marries old and modern."

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"I can not recommend this spot enough- first of all, every staff member is so warm and congenial. The room is beautiful, and the complimentary breakfast is table service (mind blowing to my American standards!). Being right in the Cathedral grounds puts you in the midst of everything but yet in a nice quiet oasis. Would come back just to stay here again."
