Crystal Coast Oceanfront Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We booked a weekend stay at Crystal Coast Oceanfront Hotel and wanted to leave a fair, positive review. The property was clean, the staff was fantastic, and our room was absolutely spotless. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and professional, and the oceanfront location is beautiful. We did realize pretty quickly that the overall atmosphere was not the right fit for what we were personally looking for. This is more of a lively, family-friendly beach hotel, with a tiki bar, pool activity, music, and entertainment. For many guests, that may be exactly what makes it a great beach weekend. For us, we were looking for a quieter, more relaxed coastal getaway, so after about four hours we decided to head home rather than stay the weekend. That was simply a matter of personal preference, not a reflection of the cleanliness, service, or quality of the property. I would absolutely recommend it for guests looking for an active, family-friendly oceanfront hotel with onsite energy and entertainment. It just wasn’t the right match for the quiet weekend we had in mind."

"It is located close to the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk, and within easy walking distance of many shops and attractions. While on the main road, the hotel was very quiet. The room did not feel cramped, and appreciated that not only was there a mini-fridge and microwave, there was counter space for using them. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we also loved being right on the sound to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sunsets."

A Place at the Beach

"Unfortunately, the pool was not open and construction was present outside our balcony for the entire 4 day stay. These issues were not disclosed to us until after check in. The indoor pool wasn’t heated as advertised and the weather was chilly at times. The heated pool would have been lovely. Instead, most people utilizing the indoor pool area just crowded into a small hot tub. Concerns about a guest exposing himself were not taken seriously and the guest did it a second time in front of children. Overall, a very poor experience."

"Beach view was obstructed by the front door awning. This was the room we were moved to after finding our assigned room completely unready with ceiling popcorn falling to the floor and unmade beds. Daughter's friend was with us and she walked barefoot through the room and wound up with filthy black feet."

"The property was beautiful and the location was perfect and walkable to everything. The only thing I did not like was the walls were a little thin and could hear our neighbors enjoying themselves a little too much if you know what I mean 😉. Other than that, great property."

"The location is great and check-in was quick, but unfortunately this was the worst experience we’ve had in over 10 years of staying here. We stayed in the Manager’s Apartment, and it was clear housekeeping and maintenance had been overlooked. We locked the door when we left but came back to it unlocked twice?? At 11 PM the ceiling started leaking so I had to move the furniture out of the way and discovered the loveseat was covering a nasty mess. We used towels to clean it up the leak until we could notify staff the next morning. After employees checked the leak, they didn’t pick up or replace the towels, clean the floor, or even lock the doors when they left. Helena was especially rude when I asked for extra towels and a replacement bathroom light bulb. One of the girls urgently needed the bathroom after we returned from the beach, but Helena complained that she was using the restoom in the dark. She also left the old bulb just lying on the bathroom counter afterward. The next morning, we woke up to bugs covering the bedroom ceiling, walls, and floor. The dishwasher had been pushed back so far it wouldn’t close properly, the Keurig was stored away still full of old water and a used pod, the oven door was sticky, and the freezer smelled strongly like fish. The most disappointing part wasn’t even the condition of the unit — it was the complete lack of concern after these issues were brought to Helena's attention. The pool was also closed due to a leak. Other staff were great."

Sand Dollar Motel

"We stayed in room 7. The AC is plugged into a converter which gets so hot, it trips. So the AC turns off, the the converter turns back on so the AC turns back on and makes a beep. That goes on every 10 mins or so u til the converter completely overheats and shuts everything down for an undetermined amount of time. After leaving the AC on all day while we were gone, we came back to a room that was hotter than the outside temperature and it smelled so bad. At this point it was too late to do anything so we suffered and sweat all night. I went down to the beach in the morning, came back to get stuff together and check out, and again the room was hotter than outside. The only good thing I can say about this room is the beds are comfortable. The towels are the standard child sized super scratchy ones."
