About this property
Adirondack Cabin w/Kayaks, Direct Snowmobile&ATV Trails, Swimming, Hiking, WiFi
Our Adirondack Cabin ‘The Outpost’ (in the Adirondack Park!) is situated upon 2 acres of beautiful Adirondack Park wooded land surrounded by 13,000 acres of state land in the Western Adirondack Mountains. The West Branch of the Oswegatchie River is only 100 yards from the front door. Near the cabin are numerous ponds - French Pond, Long Pond, Round Pond, Rock Pond, Trout Pond, Clear Pond and Mud Pond which are all from 100 yards away to within two miles! A trail head for Jake's Pond can be found at the end of Long Pond Road only about 3 miles away. There are maps at the cabin for your use to personalize your own Adirondack Adventure!
Snowmobiling (or ATV-ing) from the front door with plenty of trailer parking. The cabin is located on Long Pond Road Trail with Lewis County C8 and C5 trails less than one mile down the road. All beautiful trails to anywhere in the state. An amazing 30 mile ride southeast to Stillwater Reservoir then Old Forge; north to Harrisville and Star Lake; or up into the Five Ponds wilderness that is due east on Long Pond Road. We have made the cabin convenient for winter occupancy with plenty of trailer parking, electric heat and an optional wood pellet stove to keep you warm.
The cabin is all on one level with an open living, dining room and kitchen area, full bathroom, and two bedrooms.
No matter what the season, every day is beautiful. The summer sun off the waters, winter all in white or the fall with its intense colors. The cabin is surrounded by huge white pines, hemlock woods and maple hardwoods for color and fragrance. The cabin is approximately fourteen miles from the town of Croghan and right around the corner from The Buckhorn Bar & Grill.
Enjoy a lot of R+R time, swimming at our beach (only 200 yards through the beautiful woods), hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, a campfire under the stars or seasonal activities of sledding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
We own an adjoining additional 5 acres lot with a 4 bedroom house directly next to the cabin (60 feet apart) and a 3 bedroom cabin on the front lot of The Outpost. See listing 4642838 for details and to rent with the cabin - it's a great setup especially for a getaway with extended family and friends. These are separate properties but the cabins are close to each and share the beach amenities.

Beautiful property. The cabin was the perfect size and easy to find.
I absolutely LOVE this property and the owners!! We always have a wonderful experience, and the cabin is PERFECT: clean, neat, modern, full of every amenity you could need!!
Can't wait to go back!!!!
Cabin was clean, quiet, updated. Hardy’s had many kayaks and small boats available to use and offered lots of hiking and waterway trip tips. Buckhorn Bar and Grill a short walk away. Beautiful area.

Remote, tranquil place
Were surprised about the distance to infrastructure like supermarkets.
Great place to relax and enjoy nature.
Nearby pub is very nice.
Wonderful place to stay with absolutely awesome hosts. My cabin was super clean and perfect. There was firewood for burning and plenty of blankets for warm snuggles. The entire area of 5 Ponds is just amazingly beautiful with plenty of hikes and paddling available.
Rest and relaxation for sure! Great location with access to shared canoes and kayaks. Small beach and a floating dock. Nice area for walking the dog! Very friendly locals too!! Everything as described. Erin provided good information prior to our stay to help plan hikes or some paddling trips. Looking forward to renting The Outpost again!!

Our host, Erin was wonderful! She graciously helped us with overnight accommodations after we realized I had made reservations for the wrong night. The apartment we ended up staying in was clean and quiet and recently remodeled. 5 stars!!
I am from Lewis County, my entire family still lives there, and I go home every weekend. I spent a week at this particular property over the summer and had the BEST time ever! Everything is stunning, clean, and new. Plenty of room! It has amazing beds/bedrooms, roomy bathroom with all the amenities, and new stainless steel appliances! PERFECTION! The only thing that made this even better was the owner. She was so helpful and kind!! I will be staying there as often as I can from now on!! Great price, great property, great owners!!! Oh! Take a walk up the beautiful road for an amazing meal at The Buckhorn!!!

Outpost on Long pond road
1st night very cold, electric baseboards did not work, there was no fire starter for the pellot stove, finally got that going then to bed to wake up too hot! dishes in cupboard dirty, floor cold, no rug at side of bed, lot of outlets not working, did not have luck utilizing communication method w/owner thru vrbo, very difficult w/one phone, Grill rotted and did not work. picture let us to believe cottage was right at dock. misleading. nice location, great large indoor/outdoor rug to help keep cottage clean. nice large new fridge, oven worked fine as did microwave, and hot water.
The cabin is in a group of other cabins right along Long Pond Rd. So you will have very close neighbors for your stay. We had a night where local kids were constantly riding their ATVs up and down the road - which was loud and unwelcome. All the cabin amenities worked well. You will need to bring your own linens & towels as the instructions you read upon arrival state that all of their provided linens and towels need to be washed and returned dry and clean. We brought a small vacuum cleaner and this was needed as well in order to clean the carpets before we left. Great access to a wonderful little beach and trails are right out your door. We had a wonderful canoe trip day, using the host's canoe, which is located on the host's property, a bit down the road from the cabin. Better maps of the area trails are available in Lowville at the DEC. Worth the drive to get them if you are hoping to do lots of hiking. Hosts are very gracious folk.
Cabin very clean and well equipped. Really enjoyed having access to the kayaks and canoes and an easy walk to several lakes and waterfalls. Slightly confusing to find our specific cabin since we were unclear that there were several cabins under the same address number. Would definitely return there.
The property was great. No a/c but the cabin is so well insuated that you woild swear that it was. Owners were very accomadating. My only wish would be that shopping was closer.

Nice area but....
Cannot find it in the dark. Driveway was not marked. Lots of dog rules that are not advertised or followed by the other 2 rentals next door. Was more of a dog hell for my 2 labs. The description was inaccurate and deceptive.
Overall decent stay- clean and modern and looked like the listing photos. Only 2 things that were an issue during our stay- (1) microwave kept having to be restarted because it appeared the fuse would blow after using it for multiple consecutive minutes and (2) the shower head was very clogged which led to very poor pressure and longer than necessary showers. It was slightly tricky finding the cabin at first as it is hidden in the back and looks as though a garage of sorts is in front of it, but once found it was easy to check in, etc. Communication with the host before check-in was consistent and she always responded in a timely manner. It was a little tricky finding the docks at first as well as there were a couple mapping signs down, but once we were on the right path (and after avoiding several poison ivy leaves) it was a great area- shared kayaks and a great secluded fishing spot. Overall decent stay, would recommend.
