I booked this for our anniversary. wanted it to be memorable, some alone time and we could not have ever expected how amazing our weekend turned out, a time we will never forget. This hotel is an oasis. The external neighborhood is your basic off-the-freeway strip mall area, which means it is a convenient location for places you might want to go. But once you are inside, you enter a peaceful, almost resort-style environment. The staff was very attentive to our requests - which included putting a 2nd chair in the room. The Derby City Gaming & Hotel was so clean! I felt secure with the safety to access my floor. The staff (Keke) was very welcoming and made check-in great. Bonus: I love to watch the horses train in the morning.

Very nice room - but check-in was a nightmare. The key did not scan - so we pulled our suitcase back down to the front desk - they swiped the key again, acted like we were cray and didn't know how to operate the room key and sent us back up to try again. It is a place to stop they had rooms casino was smoking and people were chain smoking all over so that was a bit too much at times. Lots of reserved slots machines but no one playing so that was a thing. We had some light night food and it was just okay not bad. Automatic coffee at front desk made me a cup of scalding hot water instead of a coffee I just left rather than waiting in line at the front desk trying for a refund. Lastly the casino had a few NPC s just wondering around never playing...
