The Phinisi line up at Sunda Kelapa Harbour Sunda Kelapa is the old port ofĀ JakartaĀ located on the estuarine ofĀ Ciliwung River. "Sunda Kalapa" (Sundanese: "Coconut of Sunda") is the original name, and it was the main port ofĀ Sunda Kingdom of Pajajaran. The port is situated in PenjaringanĀ sub-district, ofĀ North Jakarta,Ā Indonesia. Today the old port only accommodateĀ pinisi, a traditional two masted wooden sailing ship serving inter-islandĀ freightĀ service in the archipelago. Although it is now only a minor port, Jakarta had its origins in Sunda Kelapa and it played a significant role in the city's development. TheĀ pinisiĀ orĀ phinisiĀ is a traditionalĀ IndonesianĀ two-mastedĀ sailing ship. It was mainly built by the Konjo tribe, a sub-ethnic group of Bugis-Makassar mostly residents at the Bulukumba regency ofĀ South Sulawesibut was, and still is used widely by theĀ BugineseĀ andMakassarese, mostly for inter-insular transportation, cargo and fishing purposes withinĀ Indonesian archipelago.
