Sao Cha Liang, cool mushroom-shaped rock formations in Pha Taem National Park. Looking like something out of the old Road Runner cartoons, this area was filled with inspired artists trying to recreate them on canvas.

These can be found in other areas of Isan (such as in Mukdahan National Park a bit further north), but being able to also see ancient rock paintings and the first sunrise over Thailand make this park a great destination.

"Advertised pool, gym, and exercise classes DO NOT exist. Property is not in a convenient location. I was stuck in my room with no facilities to use while my partner was at work. "This hotel is a fraud. I booked a room on July 12...showed up on the 27th, they took my Passport photo and personal info, then said they didn't have a room for me. Wouldn't give me a refund because they said they didn't receive any money. I was charged for the stay even though I didn't stay. It is a clever little scam they got going on at this hotel. They target foreigners. I filed a claim with my credit card agency and will report the fraud to Hotels.com."

"My room is very nice with a medium size refrigerator and coffee/tea pot. The internet is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Its a short taxi ride to shopping and theres a 7-11 with a coffee shop and ATM down the street very close."

"Very new hotel. Staff are unbelievable, best I have ever seen in Thailand. Not a complaint, but no bathroom as such, just sectioned out in the room. No lock on the toilet and shower. Breakfast was great, labels on everything, great for fussy eaters. Would totally recommend this hotel in Ubon."
