The "Shouse"- Take the road less traveled- for fun & relaxation in the country

"Thank you for being such a fabulous host. The Shouse was just what we needed. We stayed the weekend while we moved our son for college. The peace and quiet was amazing. The kitchen was perfect to whip up a quick breakfast before we headed out for the day. Huge selection of flavored coffee. I don’t know what I loved more the huge retro couch (the chaise side was my favorite) then waterfall shower or the fireflies. We will definitely be back!"

"We were looking for a place to host a family gathering that could comfortably accommodate a larger group, and Wild Rose Cabin in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, was a wonderful surprise. Our trip had two main priorities, and the property matched the VRBO description and photos perfectly. It was quiet, relaxing, and gave our family and friends a great place to spend time together. We gathered in the kitchen for coffee and conversation, the bedrooms were spacious, and the half bath in the upstairs loft worked well for our nephews. When an air-conditioning issue came up, the hosts resolved it right away. They also allowed us to host a family dinner with cousins we had not seen in more than 20 years, and everyone was impressed by how beautiful the property was. A big thank-you to the hosts from the Byram/Abbott family."

"Even though I am not handicapped, I was given a handicapped room, which was no problem. The entry door was dragging on the carpet making it difficult to open. This would not normally be an issue for a non-handicapped room but an actual handicapped person would struggle to open the door. It really did take a considerable force to get it open. I mentioned this to the management. The in-room refrigerator is a compact model that does not have auto defrost. The frost buildup was so bad that closing the door was tricky. I did not mention this to the management. I did use the swimming pool. It is indoors and was very well kept and clean. This pool is really meant for kids, not adults like myself. I normally swim in very deep water so when I tried to get out at the shallow end, I stubbed my middle toe on the bottom. That's my bad not the facility. The room was clean and the TV worked. The hair dryer mounting had been pulled from the wall so it was placed over the towel rack. I had no issue using it but the mounting base hung from the cord while I was using it. The bed was comfortable with lots of blankets. The breakfast was self serve consisting of: hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, orange juice, milk, yogurt, and hot waffles with butter and syrup, They also had hot biscuits and gravy, which I did not have. You can eat either indoors or outside on an elevated deck. This motel served my need and if I am ever in West Union again, I will re-book without hesitation."

"This property is perfect to unwind and relax. Andy is very attentive and easy to contact. The cabin has everything you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life, and it is very clean. Our listing did say three bedrooms, when it was actually two bedroom and a nice pull out sofa in the living room. It would sleep 6 very comfortably. The spiral stairs and large deck are beautiful! The picnic tables and gas grill are a nice benefit!"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The home is incredibly spacious, offers fantastic activities, and features an excellent location. If you are planning a trip to Backbone State Park, this home is perfect, as it is just a short drive from the park entrance.However, we did notice a few details regarding the sleeping arrangements:Master Bedroom: The mattress is comfortable but the frame is quite squeaky. A single quiet sleeper will be fine, but multiple people may find their sleep disrupted by the noise.Downstairs Bedrooms: These mattresses are best suited for children, as our adult guests found them less comfortable.Overall, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this location to future travelers."
