"Fantastic place to stay in Takayama. Great location and the hotel staff go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The hotel is in great shape as well and the onsen on the top floor with an outside option was nice."

"No English speaking or want to speak staff on site. Very unfriendly front desk staff.
Wed. City is mostly closed, including all restaurants. Hotel did not inform guests and were not prepared. We did eat at their last reserved time at Chinese restaurant, which was terrible and not our choice for dinner. Only thing open.
Breakfast was same almost everyday. Not fantastic, but do able
Water was clean but not too hot.
We will not return."

"We had the best time in takayama and not least because of our stay here. It was one of the highlights of our Japan vacation. It feels really traditional yet well maintained and clean. The room was so nice and cosy. We also enjoyed the public bath. I hope we get a chance to visit again sometime."

"The hotel is so welcoming. All staff are helpful and pleasant except for speaking English. The food is excellent, and the location was great. The view was I just want to bring it to my home. Overall, it was great staying."

Wow this was such a highlight of our trip! Def wortg the trip! The onsen was amazing, the rooms were beautiful ,the dinner and breakfast experience delicious, and the staff super sweet. One thing to note, this is about an hr bus ride from Takayama station! We cut it really close because we didn't realize how far it was, if you get there after a certain time, they can't serve you dinner so plan accordingly

On a recent family trip to Japan, we stopped in Gifu to see the cormorant fishing (a fascinating and enjoyable experience), and had the good fortune to spend a night at the Juhachiro. It was a fantastic experience. The location was great -- an easy bus ride from the train station, right at the dock where the fishing and spectator boats leave from, in an area of town with a number of interesting traditional shops and restaurants. Our room was a large, extremely tastefully decorated Japanese...

It was a wonderfully unique experience to stay at this Japanese hotel with a private onsen bath in our room. I would recommend staying at least 2 nights as it is in a remote location 40 min from downtown Kanazawa. They have a free shuttle to and from Kanazawa that you need to organize with the hotel. The multi-course Japanese breakfast in a private room was a treat. The staff was very responsive and helpful despite not speaking much English. This was the most personal, kind experience I have ever received from a hotel. The building itself is beautiful - this is a true look at a traditional Japanese Ryokan with a few modern comforts. The staff gave us tons of suggestions for things to do and a whole basket of sweets to try on the house. The Sake tasting was also free. This is the best place I have ever stayed.

An absolutely magical experience, Yatusankan blew me away with the level of service and the beauty of the property. It was like staying in a museum--my wide and i remarked several times how much it felt like being inside the movie Spirited Away. Staying here was a special highlight of our trip and I hope to come back

This ryokan is the best location in Matsumoto! Along with being beautiful and super clean, you literally walk out the front door and you’re on an idyllic street with restaurants and shops. It’s also walkable from the train station, and a short walk to the castle. If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan, this is it! The host also speaks great English and is very helpful if you need anything.

If is a charming traditional Japanese inn in Takayama. It’s location is very convenient for walking to the train station and the main tourist area, but it is situated on a quiet side street. The staff was very friendly. The Japanese breakfast was excellent. We were given kimonos to wear. A very authentic experience.
