By the end of the 19th century, an electric Interurban train network connected cities and towns across Ohio.

In 1904 the Columbus, Newark & Zanesville interurban railway was built from Newark-Zanesville,

This stretch of rail required a tunnel over 300 feet long through a large rock outcrop.

The train ran for the last time on February 15, 1929.

"My husband and I took the week to visit multiple Earthworks sites across Ohio. Newark served as our "home base" and we LOVED this town! This property above the Arcade was an awesome location for being able to access local restaurants, coffee shops, book stores and so much more. It was a great set-up for 2 people to come back each day and rest, prep picnic lunches, and even do our laundry! Great stay!"

"This property was clean and recently updated. The beds were great and it is decorated nicely. The neighborhood was not the best and the neighbors were a little loud but not too late at night. Another suggestion would be to have a back exit to the hot tub and fire pit. "
