"Spacious rooms and tidy place. You will meet the cutest and friendliest cat in the lobby my daughters had great fun playing with. There was a small incidental omission on part of the management and they insisted on providing rent free room for the next 24 hrs and would not accept payment. Very nice people. "

"We have stayed at Gurney Bay Hotel, at least four times. Each time, I can recognize the helpful and extremely friendly staff. From the receptionist, the porter, the cleaner, the wait staff, everyone was incredibly kind and attentive.
The one aspect I was a bit disappointed was that Gurney Bay no longer offered massage services on the 2nd floor of the premises. I assume it due to lack of interests. But it's a minor issue.
Even though it's quite an 'old' hotel, established in 1997, it is so well maintained, with clean carpets, beds, and bathrooms. You can see the amazing history in the hotel.
I genuinely hope the hotel continues to operate for another 30years a more. We will definitely be back to Gurney Bay Hotel on our next visit to Penang"
"Truly excellent hotel with the most caring and attentive staff. Sleek and stylish building with an excellent saltwater rooftop pool with great views across the Melacca Strait. Rooms are of a very high standard with excellent bed and bedding. The restaurant is truly excellent and breakfast served by Ayie in particular, is of the highest standard with great choices for all guests. The spa is also excellent and great value for the wide range of treatments offered. We had the full massage and afternoon tea package which made our day truly memorable."
"Everyone was very kind and concerned about our experience. The hotel is beautiful and located on the edge of the historic area. The rooms are comfortable. They serve an amazing breakfast and tea. When on the first day, restaurant staff learned I was a vegetarian, they went and made special food for me! Then, afterwards they checked in with me to make sure I had a good selection. Quite amazing. A wonderful choice in Penang."

"When to celebrate my birthday and stay for 3day2night.Although they didn’t arrange anything surprise birthday cake but I still like the room and the staff was friendly.i decide to extend one more night.last day of my stay I go to enjoy the hotel spa,the front staff of the spa was very patient and helpful to explain the package, and also recommended the couple massage with Hi-tea beside the pool after massage. We are very enjoy it and also fully recommend it.will be definitely going back stay when I have back to Penang."
"We had a very pleasant stay overall. For a refurbished property, the room was impressively clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The views were beautiful too—whether facing the city or the sea, both offered a lovely backdrop to our stay.
The staff throughout the hotel were warm, helpful, and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Their hospitality was genuinely appreciated.
We slept very well for most of our stay. However, on our final night, there were recurring loud sounds coming from the water piping system between approximately 1am and 3am. I’m not certain of the cause, but it was noticeable enough to disrupt our sleep. It may be worth having the piping checked.
The pool area was pleasant and enjoyable. One small suggestion would be to have staff make occasional rounds to monitor tidiness and safety around the pool. There were quite a few crows around during our visit, and they seemed rather interested in guests’ belongings left on the sunbeds.
Breakfast was another highlight—generous in variety and well-prepared. I would happily recommend it, especially for guests looking to avoid the more tourist-oriented prices around the Gurney Drive area while still enjoying a satisfying meal.
Overall, it was a great stay with excellent value, comfortable accommodations, and wonderful service. With a little attention to the unusual water piping noise, the experience would have been even better."
