Amazing Views, quick walk to bay and ocean

Amazing Views, quick walk to bay and ocean

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful garden and quick walk to the lovely local pebble and coral beach! The location is off the beaten path a bit, which we prefer to crowded, urban areas. The host was very responsive and helpful, check in and out was a breeze, and the house was comfortable. My kids especially enjoyed the game cabinet when we stayed in, and I enjoyed coffee on the lanai while listening to the ocean in the morning. As other reviewers have noted, nighttime can be noisy with the coqui frogs, local roosters, and cats, as the house is Hawaiian style with open, screened in windows, and you need the breeze without AC.Overall, it was a great time!"

"Beautiful views! Every room had a great view. Great location close to Manini beach and Two Steps Beach for snorkeling. Limited restaurants nearby but a few solid options with great food like Black Rock Pizza and Shakaz Tacos. It’s a little remote which is great if you want to get away from crowds. It can get warm in the afternoon. The house is very spacious and well laid out."

10/10 Excellent
"After spending time on Oahu and Maui in hotels and condos, we were hoping to experience a little of the “real Hawaii.” Pu’uhonua House did not disappoint us. The location in the community of Captain Cook let us live like locals for the days we were there. The house itself is unique and obviously cared for. Our party of 9 had plenty of room. The kids (7 and 9) loved the loft. The house was even well stocked, which was unexpected and much appreciated. The best part of the house was the open decks that circle each floor. The views over the lush jungle all the way down to the coast were amazing and the constant cool breeze was soothing. We were concerned that we would regret (1) no A/C (2) bugs (3) noisy frogs; but none of those were a problem. And of course we knew we would love the little green lizards that visited every day. We were incredibly lucky that our visit coincided with Kilauea’s eruption, which made our time on the Big Island—frankly—magical. Mahalo, Bruce, for an unforgettable vacation."

Gingerhill Farm Retreat

Gingerhill Farm Retreat

10/10 Excellent
"Our stay at Gingerhill Farm in Hawaii was a truly unique experience and the perfect retreat. If you're looking for something comfortable and memorable outside of the traditional resort stay, this is it. The outdoor shower and open-air kitchen were absolute highlights—they made us feel immersed in the beautiful surroundings while still having everything we needed. The property is filled with lush gardens, blooming ginger, and vibrant tropical plants that create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. We also loved spotting the friendly geckos throughout the property, which added to the authentic island experience. A wonderful bonus was discovering the beautiful artwork by Mayumi Oda displayed throughout the property. Her vibrant, nature-inspired prints complemented the peaceful setting perfectly and added another layer of inspiration to our stay. If you appreciate nature, tranquility, and a one-of-a-kind place to stay, Gingerhill Farm is a wonderful choice!"
