Historic Strater Hotel

"I found this place charming. Interesting and with plenty of dining choices, not to mention in the heart of everything, I was glad to discover this place. People seemed to be having a great time in the other bar/dining spots, but I dined at The Mahogany Grille in the hotel and I was grateful I'd made the decision to do so my first night. The tuna appetizer and salmon entrée were exquisite. The staff was very pleasant and really the only potential downside is the closeness to the whistle of the train. Thankfully that seemed to stop around 8:30 PM and possibly started around 8:30 AM. I will likely stay here again."

"The cabin was great for my husband and 7 year old son! We enjoyed our time there. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans/cooking utensils/etc. We would stay again!"

"Beautiful scenery and a great host! Martin and his doggos were such great hosts!. Made sure everything was top notch. Cabin was super clean and had a grill, fridge, stove top , microwave and coffee maker. Everything we needed. It was just a little bit smaller than I thought but it was fine. We look forward to visiting again!"
Spacious 7BR House with Hot Tub, Pool Table, Yard

"We seven sisters & cousins had a fantastic time at Tall Spruce House! The house was spacious, the kitchen was beautiful, & the trees and rock face across the road were inspiring. We each had our own bedroom, and though the futon bed in one of the downstairs bedrooms should probably be replaced, we were all well rested! We had no children with us, so we handled the disparities among room and bed sizes with a lottery system & found that we were all content! The outdoor dining table and hot tub were lovely. A couple of us enjoyed the pool table & all of us enjoyed the comfy reading chairs & couches. We spent lots of time at Mesa Verde National Park, on the Durango Silverton Railroad, & in the wonderful towns of Silverton & Durango. Though we could have walked to the Durango Hot Springs from Tall Spruce House, we didn’t have time this trip! We recommend the nearby Hermosa Creek Grill for breakfast!"

"Very nice clean cabin. Great rooms and scenery was beautiful. We actually had a deer within a few feet of our cabin. Porch was lovely and atmosphere was very pleasant and quiet."

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a nice stay. The only problem was that it smelled like cigarettes when we walked in. We had to buy candles to deal with the smell"

"What a nice little cabin! The setting is peaceful and quiet, with a pretty view that made sitting on the front deck very enjoyable after spectacular San Juan Mountains hiking. Durango is a magical place.The cabin’s kitchen has nice appliances and cookware which were good for us, since we made almost all our meals in. Things were clean and in good working order, with a big refrigerator/freezer. The bathrooms were clean with nice towels. Upstairs shower was clean with surprisingly good water pressure, shower head, and fast heat - no soaping up in cold water waiting for the hot water to arrive. Furnishings were what you’d expect in a cabin setting; pretty comfortable. We slept in the downstairs bedroom on the king bed that was definitely not the highlight of our stay. We could text from the cabin, and had a good Internet connection. We didn’t turn on the TVs, so can’t comment on that. Communication with the host’s representative was excellent."
