The ruins of St Mary’s Church at Little Chart in Kent, England.

The church was dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin and the Holy Rood having been built by the Normans in the 11th century.

It was described as a handsome building of sandstone with two aisles, two chancels with a steeple at the west end. The steeple is said to have been built in Henry VII’s reign. The Victorians carried out major repairs in the 19th century with new windows, and oak panelling.

Sadly, on 16th August 1944 during WW2, St Mary’s received a direct hit from a flying bomb known as a doodlebug. With only the damaged tower and parts of the chancel wall surviving, the bells were removed and stored. The remains still stand today.

"We had a lovely weekend stay at this apartment. It was spotlessly clean, modern and very comfortable-perfect for a relaxing getaway. The kitchen was well-equipped, the beds were cosy and the whole place had a fresh, welcoming feel. The only small thing we noticed was that there weren’t many mirrors, which would have been handy-but that didn’t take away from the overall great experience. Would definitely stay again! "

"I needed immediate help when the sat sav dumped me nearby & my host talked me all the way to the front door which was a huge relief. The accommodation is dated but I knew that from the photos it was very clean though & i was surprised to find all the essentials had ben left. I wasn’t expecting that so had brought it all with me. "Convenient for town and free parking nearby. Beds were comfy but there were a few cleanliness issues especially in the Communal hallway. Lacked a few kitchen essentials and we were surprised to be expected to take our rubbish home. That’s simply not practical for most people! "

"Accommodation was very clean bright and accurately reflected the photos. The beds were also comfortable. The only downside was it was uncomfortably too hot as no air conditioning and it was a particularly hot weekend but there was a fan in the larger of the 2 rooms. The local area has plenty of cafes, restaurants and takeaways within close proximity and there is on street parking restricted to 2 hours between 10am to 6pm only so fine for overnight. "

"The hotel reception was well run and check-in went very smoothly. Our room which was on the ground floor was spacious, very clean and well appointed, with a very comfortable bed. The only down side was the complicated lighting arrangement in the room. In the morning, we found the breakfast well stocked with a reasonable range of item. All in all it was a very nice stay"

Our room was perfect, clean lovely Seaview oh but the windows actually needed a jolly good clean and the hotel is in a really good position just to go walking to the shops and to the Lower Leas which was absolutely stunning as was the Upper Leas, so yes it was all good! 😁"
