To say that my stay here was excellent is an understatement. Every single person that I came in contact with was so helpful and friendly. Travis was also very helpful with any questions that I had. The food at the restaurant was phenomanal! The atmosphere was great and the room and hotel itself was beautiful. I felt very comfortable and will stay again. Thanks so much to the entire staff!

Magical hotel, too bad about the food and upkeep
Hotel was ery cool, however the food was gross, came mushy most of the time while the rissotto balls were cold on the inside. And you couldn't take them back because the waiter came once a day only to take orders. Such a shame. The place could be so amazing! Also if you want a late checkout you have to talke to like 5 people and even if they say yes and they charge you for a half day you are still expected to leave at 1pm.
There can be a fine line between retro/cool and old/shabby. Regrettably our junior suite (room 27) definitely fell into the latter. Given the money were were charged, it was a disgrace. Old, tired and in the case of the bathroom, grubby. We should have known that the place needs a massive injection of money to give it an upgrade when, on arrival, half of the hotel's street side electronic sign wasn't working. Our room was also immediately above the hotel's kitchen extension that goes out into the back lane. Kept awake all night with staff chat and dropped trays etc.
OK - the good things. The staff, without exception, were brilliant. Courteous, friendly and helpful. We dined in the restaurant both nights we were there and couldn't fault it. The setting was terrific and the food quality was excellent.
In summary, this was the big splurge for our holiday and was supposed to be a major highlight. Turned out to be a massive disappointment. So - definitely go there for dinner, but don't stay the night.

YOLO!
Its a must for your first time in LA or for anytime! The facilities are old but the history is great.
The drinks and food can be pricey but very good.
If you're in LA for just a few nights it worth it.
Loved the bathroom products and the staff were all very attentive and efficient, even if you are not from LA or a celebrity.
I would go back again for 1 or 2 nights for a lay over or short stay in LA.
There are more luxurious hotels with better locations, but this is a classic, even if its just for once in your lifetime!
