"A charming, quiet ryokan with friendly staff, clean rooms and nice (shared) baths. Breakfast was exceptional and almost too big to fit on the table. And even better, it was exceptionally reasonably priced. I'd recommend an overnight stay on Itsukushima so that you can get away from the crowds and see the island at its best, and I would happily stay here again."

"Iwaso was a wonderful experience. From the minute we arrived after being picked up promptly, we were made to feel welcome and special. The onsen ( bath) was brilliant. Sharing the benefits of a hot bath in the gorgeous outside as well as inside!! The food was fabulous and the service was excellent. The room was calm and beautifully presented."

"Kenji was an incredible host and has a really beautiful property. He was very responsive and kind enough to drive us to and from the ferry terminal/ property (about 30-45mins by car). He leaves you totally alone at the property (other than potentially popping in to water his veggies) as he lives elsewhere. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a remote retreat. That being said, the property is VERY remote -- this is not for anyone looking to see the sights of Miyajima, or otherwise leave the property at all. You can walk around the farm, take an indoor/ outdoor bath at the bathhouse, or make the short walk down to the beach at the bottom of the hill (rocky but gorgeous, clear, swimmable and near private), but that is all you should plan for unless you want to make the 2hr trek to town or do some serious hiking ! Bring your own food for the stay (fridge and full kitchen provided). Our only real criticism was that not all of the windows in the bedroom had a lock, and the lock on the bedroom door was very flimsy and could be easily opened with a swipe of a credit card or butter knife - the island is very safe but as suspicious New Yorkers that made us very nervous! Would be an easy fix for some peace of mind."

"The property is very nice, clean and modern. The living room is a comfortable place to relax. Please be aware that this is a 3 bedroom property and the other rooms will be occupied by other guests. The kitchen, living room, toilets, and bathroom are all shared with the other guests. The house is lovely but has very thin walls and doors and you can hear all the other guests, even when they are trying to be very quiet. If the other guests leave early in the morning you will very likely be woken up. It is a nice place to stay but please consider this when booking. "

"The staff was terrific; very kind and attentive. The view of the Tori gate was incredible from our room. Food was wonderful and there was a lot of it! More that anything, Miyajima is just a wonderful place! If we can manage it we will go back! Also, they have no issue with tattoos in the onset, which is a plus for me!"
