"Very nice overall. only 5 min from Beamish and 15 min walk through the woods to the lovely Causey Arch. Staff very friendly and helpful. Couple of bits a little bit tired but acceptable. Breakfast a little limited but you can always find something from the continental side. Evening meals were excellent, we stopped two nights and dined both times and every meal had a wow factor. "This was our 3rd visit to Lumley Castle & it was just as great as previous ones. We wanted a relaxing break & it was exactly that. The staff were excellent & nothing was too much trouble. I do have one suggestion however regarding the bar menu. The library bar is a nice alternative to the restaurant especially if you just want a drink but we would have liked to enjoy some snacks to enjoy with our drinks but the only choices were pork scratchings & olives, no crisps or nuts. We also would have liked some ighter healthier meal choices eg. Caesar salad rather than the heavier choices of meat pie, burgers & fish n chips which were not our choice as the weather was very warm. The restaurant food however was excellent if a little pricey. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much & hope to return very soon. "

"The hotel property is quite unique set in a former council building especially the bar and restaurant which are located in the former council chambers. The most striking feature of the hotel however is the excellent service provided by all of the fantastic staff. The location is unbeatable allowing you to easily explore the city centre and the river walk. Many excellent restaurants and coffee shops are within 500 yards and the city attractions are very walkable from the hotel. "

"Great overnight stop with the most friendly and helpful of staff. Facilities excellent and being able to bring our dog was so good. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast options were just right for us. Will definitely stay again. The price was also the best value for money you could ask for. Could not recommend more."
