"Great place and space for our first visit to Hawaii. We really enjoyed the view of the ocean which could be seen from almost every room in the house. The upper bedroom balcony was great for spotting the whales off in the distance. Also enjoyed sipping my coffee out on the patio in the mornings as the sun came up. The little trail out to the rocks was a favorite spot for my husband to just take in the ocean views. The host literally thought of everything we would need for our stay. Appreciate having all the comforts of home during our stay. Although it may have been a little longer drive into town to the nearest Walmart, it was worth it to be right on the ocean in a private tropical like setting away from the “city” hustle and bussle. Only thing that might have made our stay even better would have been air conditioning. But then we wouldn’t have the sounds of the ocean to listen to with the windows closed. Thank you for making our 35th Anniversary trip to Hawaii an enjoyable experience. We’d highly recommend staying at Kai Hona Hal!"

"The house was unique and special - not the kind of generic room or apartment you find on rental sites these days. Its location was close to the volcanoes national park, but also remote and isolated. Joshua and Geneva gave us excellent directions to get there with ease and checked on us to ensure we had all we needed. Our five-year-old was pleased with all of the games, books, and decorations that showed him that kids are welcome at Volcano Home. Beds were comfortable and blankets were plentiful. Details that made it feel like people actually live in the home such as high functioning WiFi and the full set of supplies in the kitchen, would have made it easy to stay a long time - we wish we could have stayed a few more nights. My favorite feature was the outdoor shower, especially on a cold, clear night when I could stargaze!Some things you should know: you probably should have an all wheel drive vehicle to contend with the gravel road that the house is located on. It really does get cold and windy here (and at the national park) at night. "

"The Rainbow Dreams Cottage NEVER disappoints! I’ve had the privilege to stay here on other occasions with a girlfriend. We always treasured our time here. This time I brought my husband. I was worried that he would prefer to have wifi and cell coverage. He was a bit sceptical before we checked in. However, as we sat in the main room on our first night, the room lit with candles, the windows open to let in the warm breeze, listening to the coqui frogs and crickets, the waves crashing against the rooks across the road… he turned to me and said, “this is magical!” He is a fan! The cottage had everything we needed. It was comfortable and quiet (except for the waves). It is very well-maintained, thoughtfully appointed, and the hosts are very communicative and helpful. Read the host’s description - it is detailed and informative. While it is located off the beaten path, the privacy and serenity are well worth the short drive to restaurants and groceries. The village of Pahoa has some great dining options and there are delicious smoothies down the road in Kalapana. There is lots to explore or just hang out on the lanai at the cottage and read. If you prefer to make your own meals, the kitchen has been updated and has what you will need.If you are looking for a peaceful and beautiful part of Hawaii to get-away and recharge, the Rainbow Dreams Cottage is for you! "Absolutely gorgeous view. Completely different experience seeing the lava fields. We enjoyed watching the sunrises at the edge of the ocean. It’s only a about a four or five minute walk from the house and it’s easy to pack a chair to sit in. The unit itself is beautiful. We loved having the air conditioning and really didn’t need it too much but it was very nice to have. The condo itself is clean and up-to-date. The bed is very comfortable. Best one I’ve ever slept in at any VRBO. Pahoa is just a quick drive away and Hilo is only about 45 or 50 minutes if you plan to avoid traffic. The owner was easy to get a hold of and we had a great time. We hope to be back!"
