"We had alwasy said we wished to stay at the Sands whenever we have visited the Orkneys before. We booked Watersounds which was a family suite and was not disappointed. The suite, facilities, friendliness, food well....everything was so much more than we hoped for and some. Excellent place to tour the islandsas a base or just to relax and enjoy the scenery and pace of life. "

"Nice room on top floor; unfortunately no lift. Good facilities except no bath. Breakfast was included and this was hearty and served with a smile. Food was high quality. There was nowhere to dine in the evening and eating out options in Stromness are limited so we’d recommend booking meals before you start your stay. "This was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. The suite was a very creative design and so comfortable. The staff were amazing in how they made sure we were comfortable. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous in its design which is relatively newly renovated we understood. The management was so helpful . They kept our bags safely until we left for the night ferry. "The Ayr Hotel is well placed in Kirkwall, close to the main ferry terminal, the bus station, and the main shopping street. We stayed in a detached block across the street with 12 apartments. Ours had a comfortable bedroom, good bathroom and a large sitting room with comfortable sofas. The kitchenette had a fridge, a hob and a microwave. . The restaurant was in the main building. Food was always quickly served and delicious."
