"Brook Cottage was a comfortable home for a week in the Dales. The bed was comfortable, though firm. The deep couch and a wool throw made curling up to watch a movie or read a book comfortable. It was quiet inside, even though a bank holiday weekend and only steps from the main road through town. Having a parking space across the street was handy. Being so close to the Crown Inn offered a comfortable option for several meals and having Bake-Well nearby is a wonderful treat. The footpath that started right across the main road was a nice introduction to the area and views. St. Oswald's was interesting to visit and I enjoyed the Sunday service.There were issues, of course, frequently of my own making. I tried to enter Brook House, around the corner, instead of Brook Cottage. Didn't work. I didn't know how to lock the front door. Learned from a very nice grandmother walking by with her grandson that you need to pull the handle up before you turn the key. Misinterpreted the term dryer to be an electrical machine with heat, as opposed to a metal frame on which I could hang wet clothes to dry. Sometimes I bumped my head on the ceiling's low spots and sometimes the hanging hearts protecteded me. The hosts were responsive and kind but sometimes I missed their messages (or things were out of their control, like when the repairman would be available). I hadn't expected Askrigg to not have a store where I could get milk and cereal but did enjoy its tranquility. Et cetera"

"The Property is a lovely big converted stone stable. Flagstone floor throughout the ground floor. Large lounge with TV (digital) and 3 two seater sofas, large oval dining table. Downstairs toilet. Small “reading room” mezanine looking out over the sheltered courtyard garden. 3 large bedrooms upstairs. All rooms (up and downstairs) have wooden beams, including large bathroom set into the eaves where you really have to watch your head on the beams! Access is slightly quirky through a small archway/passage next to “the bake well” tea/cake shop (also does breakfast). Location is great - central to Askrigg village in Wensleydale, 5miles from Hawes. Very Slight negatives: (1) perhaps the cottage downstairs is a bit dark/gloomy. (2) TV is a bit fiddly to setup - everything is accessed via wifi “Ruku” box (including Netflix/Prime etc if you have and account). (3) Gas heating also needs setting on boiler and thermostat, you would probably want to set the fire in mid-winter as stone cottage is naturally a bit cold (4) main double bed is very hard. (5) Parking is on the road, but there was never an issue finding a space nearby. None of these is a major issue though. Overall its a lovely big cottage with lots of character in a great location."

"Really nice cottage. Lovely area. But, pretty cold. Would have been good if heating had been on before we arrived. Took while to heat up. Then heating stopped altogether on Friday . Other than that. It was a wonderful stay."

"Wonderful accommodations in a lovely room overlooking the local church and town square. Two doors from "Skeldale House" and amazing breakfasts. Would definitely return if the opportunity arises. "
