The World Famous Tan Hill Inn

"Lovely place. This is a rustic place in the middle of nowhere and is fantastic! Worth all the travel. Staff were amazing. Food was superb. I had the giant Yorkshire pudding with beef bourginon. My room was lovely and the bed comfortable. A very welcoming place even for a single traveller like me. I’m definitely going back at some point! Brilliant"

"Only down side for me is no lift or easy access for disabled people and the only ground floor toilet (which was for the disabled) was not very clean. Otherwise I loved the hotel."

"So happy to stay here before everyone finds out about it and it gets fully booked every weekend. Absolutely perfect base to stay for everything North Yorkshire has to offer. Cannot fault the staff, the location, the amenities. What a garden, picturesque overlooking Richmond. Beer was fantastic, locals great company, the owner, his wife and mother in law were superb hosts. Continental breakfast was great and just wish we could have stuck around for the Sunday roast. We will be back and will tell everyone… if you head north do not even think about driving past without stopping at the Holly Hill Inn. Mark and Ellie."

"15yrs since our last visit and the passage of time hasn’t been kind to the establishment . From the lack of tlc in the old garden to the weeds on the oath and the unkempt front garden, first impressions were not good. The hotel or now restaurant with rooms is a tired old lady. Door are bashed and chipped, skirting’s are scratched and flaky. Carpets are tired and worn. Clean and tidy overall and with lovely friendly staff . Excellent food and service at meal times. But it is just tired, lacking an onsite manager."

"The staff behind the bar and who worked in the restaurant were very friendly. The room was a good size and there was nice view from our window. Breakfast was brought to your room rather than in the restaurant, this was different and gave the option for having breakfast in bed. The only downside was that the door for the stairwell at the end of the hallway kept slamming. This door was next to our room which was quite frustrating."

"Only a one night stay. Efficient and friendly staff. Good food. Parking no problem. Room was ok, but the bed was 'springy'. It needed a new mattress. But I would stay there again, for sure."
