Casa Garibaldi, a Burghesius home

Pin-sharp light. Asymmetrical dimensions. Bold blank-canvas decor. It feels remarkably like you’re walking into a famous photographer’s studio at newly renovated Casa Garibaldi. The fact that it’s in the heart of buzzing Trastevere only strengthens that point. This is the apartment for guests who like a little extra space to unwind in – or take photos.

But while a minimal, modern feel permeates, there are clear signs of heritage: wood-beamed ceilings and magnificent views over terracotta roofs are the hallmarks of old Rome. The contrast is an attractive one, with a feeling that you’re in a characterful, serene space above the city’s hubbub below.

While the lounge – with its raised seating area and floating staircase – makes a statement, our favourite space is the kitchen-dining room. Polished terracotta parquetry and designer table and chairs make it a great place to enjoy an aperitivo before heading out to enjoy the local neighbourhood. Two sizable bedrooms complete the offering.
