"I reserved a room at Historico Central Hotel specifically to check in at 6 AM after a very early flight, just to get a couple hours of sleep before the 1 PM checkout time.
We left the room at 1:08 PM. Before heading downstairs, we sat for a few minutes in the seating area by the elevator that each floor provides, where the hotel offers complimentary water. After finishing our water, we went directly to the front desk to check out.
The front desk woman didn’t greet us at all. Instead, in a very rude and almost sinister tone, she immediately told us we would be charged an 800 MXN late fee because we were not physically at the front desk exactly at 1 PM. What made it worse was overhearing her do the exact same thing to another guest shortly after. It genuinely felt like she enjoyed penalizing guests.
I understand hotels have checkout policies, but charging nearly 40% of the room rate because guests arrive to the lobby a few minutes late despite already being out of the room, is excessive, unreasonable, and unacceptable.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t our only issue. The first room we were given had an overwhelming urine smell. The odor was so strong that we could not stay in the room longer than a couple of minutes and had to request another room immediately.
The second room was better, but the shower water temperature constantly fluctuated while showering.
The hotel does offer complimentary snacks and drinks in the attached cafe, but most of the menu was unavailable. Beware. "
