"On the plus side, the room was spacious and clean. However, several of the staff were quite rude and we did not feel at all welcome. The building is also a retirement home, and I felt that was the main focus and that the hotel was just a side hustle. Breakfast is advertised until 10, but the limited buffet is not replenished after about 9.30, and on the 5 mornings we were there it was very depleted by 9.45. We were disappointed to be advised by email a few days before our visit that the swimming pool would be closed for maintenance, and unimpressed to discover on day 4 that it had actually been open throughout our trip but an email update had not been sent. Also, just for information, the sauna rules state that you should only use it naked!"
"We stayed for two nights and honestly couldn’t fault a thing.
We arrived early due to our flight landing in the morning and knew check-in wasn’t until 3pm. We had already contacted the hotel to ask about leaving our luggage, which they were happy to store for us. When we arrived, the reception staff were incredibly friendly and let us know our room would actually be ready within the hour. We popped out for some food nearby and came back to check in before heading into Hamburg.
The location is perfect, right next to the U-Bahn station, which made getting around the city so easy and convenient.
Breakfast was fantastic. There was everything you could possibly want, yoghurt, cereals, cakes, pastries, cooked breakfast, fresh bread, meats and cheeses. There was even a pump of Nutella, which was a big hit with our 12-year-old!
We genuinely couldn’t fault the hotel. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, and an excellent breakfast. We will definitely be back."
"Clean simple well appointed room, decent gym and a great sauna. This is a jewel of a hotel at a very reasonable price.Should your travels take you to altona."
"Wonderful friendly staff. The restaurant next door is beautiful and the owners/managers are the best in customer service and friendly…felt like home. "
"This was an interesting new type of hotel stay for us. My mother grew up in Altona in the 50s after the war. I hadn’t been to Hamburg in about 20 years so we decided to visit pre-Christmas for the markets (way too crowded and difficult public transportation during it). The room was well equipped with a refrigerator, induction cooktop, convection oven, deep well sink as well as cookware and utensils. It was relatively quiet and situated. Typical German hard mattress and too many smokers outside every door. I couldn’t live in a city like this, but an occasional visit should only take a few days off my life. "
"Very clean room. Looked just like photos. Easy check in and check out. Staff were nice but was walls are thin. Maybe earplugs or some sort of offering to block out hall noises would help next time. "
