"We had two terrible nights' sleep thanks to a chirping smoke detector, which means poor maintenance! It chirped Monday night, waking us up at 1:15 a.m. but quieted after two chirps. Took us hours to fall back asleep. We reported it the next morning, AND NOTHING WAS DONE, so we were awakened again by a chirping smoke detector, this time at 3:46 a.m. My husband, a firefighter actually, is thankfully tall and stood on a chair to reach the alarm to take the battery out to disable it. We brought the whole damn thing down to the front desk, which finally got attention. But two out of our three nights had already been ruined, and there was zero compensation offered for it. This is a simple maintenance issue. You have to change the batteries on a regular schedule! However, the positives were numerous if you can overlook two bad nights' sleep: great location, fun rooftop bar (sit at the open windows), huge rooms, cute picnic basket breakfast delivered to your room (sandwiches first day, biscuits the next, with fresh fruit), good (free) happy hour, and cute coffee bar (to pay) available downstairs. "

"This property is situated in an excellent location in the Mount Pleasant area. If you have a car, Sullivans Island, Isle of Palms, Shems creek are all within a 5-15 minute drive. There is a shuttle that will drop you off in downtown Charleston for a day in the city. The property was fairly clean overall, but certain things are very dated. It could use a “freshen “ up in some areas. The outdoor areas were really enjoyable! Nice clean pools and fireplaces right on the water. Due to the excellent location I would definitely stay again! But a little sprucing up would really take this hotel to the next level!"

"My favorite hotel in Charleston. Antique feel. Rooms are small, but that’s expected in an antique hotel. It’s beautifully decorated and convenient to all of downtown Charleston."

"Great location. Our key card would not work the first afternoon so we went to the complimentary happy hour and when we went back to our room the problem was fixed. The complimentary breakfast was great. Would definitely recommend this hotel."
