"The property is ground floor and near a road so its very noisy, the windows open wide and cannot be locked open (no security fixings) so you cannot leave open at night unless you want to risk someone climbing in. The apartment is quite shabby, and old- and not good value for money. It was also quite dusty and while superficially clean, not very clean. "Such a cool hotel! We stayed in the Socrates room and it was lovely. I loved the style and the “Easter eggs” I found in the room (the back wall behind the bed had these little “doors” and some of them were small cabinets and others just swung around to reveal another side which was a line about the importance of libraries — I loved this!), it also left me dying to see other rooms! Next time I book I may request the Mary Shelley room! Breakfast was EVERYTHING and you can see they are mindful of being visited by the entire world in their selections — from a full English to homemade jams and a variety of breads, croissants and toasts, to European charcuterie and olives, to Scandinavian yogurt, granola and fruit, to vegetarian and vegan friendly options like avocado toast etc… and these delicious curry sausages (I don’t even know what they were but they were very good!) I also loved how the hallways still had that “library” smell and feel! But the room felt very much like a hotel room. Very nicely done."

"Great location very close to the DLR. Tons of shops, restaurants and history (The Cutty Stark). However its definitely a no thrills stay, literally just a bed a bathroom, not even a window. The property was clean and well maintained with the exception of the carpet in the room. The sound proofing definitely was a bonus. I never heard anyone else at all! I do wish they would invest in a communal microwave, ice machine and coffee/tea dispenser. The lobby and sitting area was nice and serene. Overall if your more interested in the travel experience than the stay I would recommend. Especially for the price!"
