"The Tilman was not a bad place to stay, it was clean; staff friendly; breakfast was okay but limited if you only like cereals. The menu for evening meal was disappointing, as it was a variation of different burgers and was a bit over priced. There are plenty of eateries within walking distance of The Tilman. If we do go back I would avoid going before Easter as most shops where closed."
"Was perfect for our needs. Loads of space. Added bonus of a sauna in the apartment helped after a a day riding trails at Dyfi bike park, which is only 10 minutes away.
Will use again"
"Nice hotel. Stayed in small dog friendly double room on second floor which had a view over the sea. Although we were on the main road. It was very quiet in the evening & overnight so we slept quite well. Unfortunately, we found that we couldn't close the blind as the mechanism seemed to be stuck. Therefore, the light shone through the sides of the window causing the room to be lighter than we would have liked. Luckily, I had a sleep mask with me but my husband woke early as the room was so bright.
Although the room was compact we still had enough room to move around & had a good sized on suite. The room was very warm as it was a sunny day & the room seemed to get a lot of sunlight. Good in the winter but I imagine it could get very hot in the summer.
Although we didn't have breakfast at the hotel we did enjoy a meal in the bar where they had a dog friendly area. We both enjoyed the burgers. It was nice that they offered gluten free burger buns.
We had a good overnight stay & would stay again if we were travelling in that area."
"Avoid!
I stayed in a single room on the second floor of this pub. The room was very tired/shabby and in desperate need of a deep clean. Old carpet fraying around the edges, dirty splashes up the wall, etc. Sloping, creaking floor.
The mattress was old and uncomfortable - springs dig into you all night. I’m always wary of non-white towels and bed linen as cleanliness is never as good - it’s dark grey towels here and grey bed linen. Thin pillows and duvet. And the TV didn’t work.
I now see there are lots of reviews saying that same. The response from the hotel is always to say something when you’re there but I can’t see how that would make any difference as the whole place is like this.
There was a gap under the room door so I could, sadly. hear other guests easily. The door did a lock but it’s definitely not fire-safe.
If this was a Travelodge if would be shut down as no one would put up with how run down it is. And this place cost me more than a Travelodge.
Positives: There’s a small hotel/pub car park at the back and a Spar (grocery shop) opposite. The pub does serve food (but I got a pizza from a nearby cafe).
I do not recommend this place. I received two WhatsApp messages from scammers who got my data from the hotel’s insecure system. I reported it to the hotel via email and they didn’t respond. I also reported it to Expedia and they were concerned and raised a report. The scammers knew my full name, and the dates I was staying at Gwesty’r Plas Coch Hotel, Bala."
